boo, eh? when did we become that close, bRo?

it was a good first learning experience. i just hope my car is clean the next time i go out and shoot, in case any shots come out well so i can actually keep/use the pic!

looking forward to experimenting!

Boo... it's local slang brah.

Lighting provides so much more creativity... but it's just the setting up, and breaking down that is a pain.

Mixed lighting is easier I think, just using the strobes for fill light. Any type of brightly lit background provides striking images.

Looks good. One suggestion - the strobe in the rear - shift it to the right about 8-10 feet and angle it between the driver side rear light and the emblem. This should allow for more event lighting on the rear of the car.

The two strobes on the driver's side - raise up the stand about 2 feet. This should help distribute more lighting on the beltline of the vehicle. I only use two flashes and can get even distribution on the rear and on the side. With three, I'd get creative with the location on the third and stick it in the interior, under the car, or for back lighting. Example of lighting a vehicle with just two flashes properly positioned.

i can't seem to light the car with only two strobes for the life of me. i'd really like to so i can use the third as rim light to get some background separation.

got mine in, promptly broke a bunch of stuff at the first shoot. You're totally right about umbrellas being the devil Erwin. I need to figure out how to weigh down my light stands so they don't blow over, and now i need to figure out how to fix a broken hot shoe mount on one of my new flashes. Anyway here's a couple test shots I took as soon as I got them:

and then a couple pics from the first photoshoot I did with the lighting gear, it was for an awesome AZ band called Silver Medallion, I went to high school with one of their singers:

Definitely still learning, haha.

One thing I have been wanting to do lately is get a wireless flash setup. You guys have got some great setups and as ctwentytwo said, off camera lighting is definitely what separates the pros from the joes. I already have a Canon Speedlite 430EX that mounts on the camera but I want the ability to place it off camera and wirelessly trigger it with my shutter. As I'm trying to conserve money for Zdayz , school, motorcycle, etc. right now I don't have an extra $200-300 laying around to spend on Pocket Wizards or the like. I have looked at TONS of cheap wireless trigger options on eBay, Gadget Infinity, etc. and came across the Phottix Strato on POTN (Canon forum). It seems to have got pretty good reviews from everything I've read. Wireless receiver and transmitter for $42 shipped Not only will it work as a wireless flash trigger but it can also be used as a wireless shutter. I'm ready to get these things in and test it out for myself. Cross your fingers!!

this is all i need for all location shot on when i don't have an assistant. Quantum T5D-R/SB-900 with freeXwire kit. Using Quantum Turbo 2x2 as power pack. Put on a softbox.

in action. I can use the same set up for SB-900 without changing to new adapter. So one kit for both flashs.

Do 580's have PC or MiniPhone ports? I know for my 430 i needed to buy a hotshoe to miniphone adapter for it to work with my cybersyncs but now that i've got it it works great.

ah good to know, does anyone know of a place that lists a bunch of flashes that can be put in manual that lists their relative power? I have no idea how mine stack up or if I wanted to upgrade where to go.
