Default Stormy & Evelyn

first two times ever not shooting cars.

things i need to work on:
interacting with the model (giving her verbal feedback as i shoot)
helping her pose
making her feel comfortable (in insisted that each bring a friend to help them relax)
^^i found it was difficult for them to pose (body and face) without making it completely obvious that they were posing
refrain from direct flash -> red eye (totally forgot what causes red eye until i opened the pics up on my computer)
focus on her eyes (sometimes i was too quick to take the shot and forgot to focus her eyes...thus the soft face)

overall, for my first two times i think the pictures came out okay.

ps - yes, i will edit the red eye out before i give the pics to the girls.

Damn... I've been putting off doing a portrait shot for months now. Now you've motivated me...

You got the RayFlash? Looks like some sorta ring flash. I'm still waiting for the goddamn Orbis.

You planning on going off camera flash?

Yeh, I picked up th RayFlash. I've been e-mailing Orbis back and forth the last two weeks. They have no definitive release date yet. According to 3rd party sources, the introductory price will be $160. How long that will last, or if it is even true? I don't know. The Orbis ring flash is designed to be hand held, unlike the RayFlash. It does come with a shoulder strap, but hand holding it separately from the camera would be a PITA to me. Carrying the 40D + 24-70 or 70-200 (both bricks) is already hard enough. The Orbis team will be releasing a fitting kit to fix it to the camera (I assume similarly to the RayFlash, where it will also inhibit the AF assist beam) for an additional cost.

With all that said, I just got tired of waiting for it to be released.

Off camera flash - definitely. That is, when I get more moniesss of course (I got sucked into modding my car, again).

First it was September, then October... damn. You don't know how many times I've watched the frickin' Orbis movie I've waited this long... I'm gonna wait it out.

That Rayflash looks the part. Impressive. You still gonna go Alien Bees w/ portable power?

BTW, only thing I would add to the portraits is rim light for the hair. It's my pet peeve, and good hair rim light always makes my day.

I know what you mean about the Orbis. I waited for that since late June I think it was. I'm surprised I lasted this long and didn't pick up the RayFlash sooner. I'm typically a very impatient person.

Not sure about the AB's at the moment.

I know about rim light (as in what it is), but I don't know much about it. I'll have to look more into it before I start making more purchases.
