Dog and Cat Portrait Thread
I'm in Arizona again for vacation and been wanting to take a proper portait of my brother's dog... a hyperactive Jack Russel named Roxy.
Both pics utilizes a wide aperture at f/1.4, with center focus on the eyes, to throw everything but the eyes out of focus. You can see in different parts of the pictures how thin DOF is.

Sigma gets ripped for QC, but I have had only 1 lens that gave me trouble... the 10mm fisheye... ended going through 2 of em, and in the end, just went with the Tokina fishy.
Both shots are natural light, lit by windows. If you look closely at the first shot, that highlight in Roxy's right eye is a big window... she was side lit... she just didn't want to face that window. Same goes for the second shot but the she was 3 quarter back lit, hence the bright background.
You actually want them by windows cause they provide great looking highlights in eyes... also if you notice, it's why portrait shooters like subjects near windows and the reason that "looking out through the window shot" is so popular.
Here's one where the expression of the dog wasn't as great, but the shot was technically better as she was facing the window... hence the catchlights/highlights in both eyes.

Nothing special too. Took some pictures with the new D90 I picked up with the 18-105mm VR Kit lens.
Both my dogs at training class.
Maybe some of you Nikon folks can help me out with picking a new lens to add to the bag.
