Thanks for sharing your workflow.

Huge fan of your work... which reminds me, I'm really not that good yet.

So after the pictures are taken are you making them into different layers and flattening in Photoshop?

htere are different ways to go about it....personally i might do things back assward, im not sure. im self taught so i kinda figured out what worked for me and that is using the lasso tools/clone stamp tool to "pull" parts of each image i want onto another one and if need to be, use the history brush tool around those parts.

it works for me

Man I really want to try using lighting. Any advice on a simple yet portable setup that wont break the bank?

your best bet is to look on craigslist and photography forum for used strobe set-ups.

you can to multiple hotshoe flashes like sb800's and while very portable that can get $$$$

you also need wireless triggers which can be expensive as well. ii personally have cheap ones and they dont fire the strobes like 1 out of 10 times but thats cause im poor and i make do with what i have lol

getting a lighting set-up and learning how to use it properly will do more for you photography than anything else out there.

this shot was produced with a d90 and a nikon 50mm 1.8 so that set-up goes for like 800 bucks now brand new and honestly i could have got the same result with a d40+50mm1.8....what made it was the lighting and the post processing technique.

I hear you, I have a D90 also and after trying everything under the sun, nothing substitutes lighting. Any brands to look for?

hell yeah. bang for the buck its a great camera.

i use novatrons and i like them, my grandfather used to be a photographer and he gave the set up to me....i got lucky

really depends on your budget, a nice set-up for a decent price is alienbee's

look around on POTN, mycanikon and other photography forums as well as CL, a set will pop up eventually.
