I'm not sure when it started but whenever I outline a layer and try to copy it, it effects the image outside of what I outlined. To put this easier if I was trying to turn a car from red to blue I would outline the car and right click and copy it as a seperate layer to work with. Before it would copy the car perfectly with no issues but now it's copying everything outside of the car I outlined. I know how to quick fix it which is shift+control+i to inverse the subject but I now have to do this on ALL things I'm copying. Do I need to go into the settings and change something to dafualt? Thanks for any help.
Cliffs: trying to copy a piece of a picture as another layer but it's copying everything outside of what I choose instead of inside. I know how to quick fix it by pressing SHFT+CNTRL+I but don't want to do this on everything!

Seems very strange.
I had a quick look through all of the preferences in Photoshop and there is nothing mentioned about 'default selections' or anything like that. I also did a google search (which I'm sure you've done yourself) and came up with nothing.
The only way I can replicate what you're describing is if I select everything first (Ctrl+A) and then set selection tool to 'Subtract from selection' ... but I doubt that that is your issue...
Try reinstalling Photoshop? :/
