powder coating '06 tracker rims
i bought a set of '06 tracker rims and want to get them powder coated. the clear coat was eaten off by some sort of rim cleaner by the original owner, NOT ME! does anyone know if you can powder coat them back to original colour and what its called. if anyone can suggest any colours that would look good, my car is burnt orange with a black top.
Are you talking about '06 Track/GT wheels? As in F18/R19 Rays? They don't come power coated, they are painted. PC is reported to weaken the forged wheels and cause stress cracks. Do a search. That has been discussed at length here.

forged parts (like any aluminum part) will overage if overexposed to high heat for a significant length of time, but if you have a powdercoater that is more professional than just some jackass with an oven, they should have no problem doing low-temp powdercoating, and it only takes about 15 minutes regardless. Powdercoating forged parts is talked about at length on metalurgy/industry forums too since this comes up often on automotive forums, with the same response. Oh, and if you ever bend a forged wheel, that's how it's going to be straightened.
Many Scooby guys have their wheels powdercoated and have no problems after hours of track use. Don't go to Joe Schmo and you'll be perfectly fine.
