Default NISMO: No Warranty?

Saw this thread on ZCAR:

http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=5&i=71150&t=71150

The guy says, "if you install any of the engine modifications, it will void your engine warranty, even if you have it installed by a dealership." He heard it from Nissan customer service.

Can anyone confirm or deny? I thought the majority of NISMO performance mods installed by the dealer will NOT void the warranty.

Maybe Internet Abyss needs to make another phone call.

some of the parts will be marked "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY" aka void warranty.

They are still at bat trying to see if the turbo is gonna void it. They better warraty it...since its gonna be so damn expensive that if its not covered who would buy it. Then if it is so expense and will void it will NNA sell it in the U.S??? no one knows yet....Mar/Apr time frame should be more clear on the Nismo stuff.

I say wait till the annoucement is made....if they say it will void it...then buy american (stillen)..hee hee.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to clear up any confusion about the warranty issue on Nismo parts.

There will be two types of NISMO parts. 1)On-road: Will carry a warranty just like any Nissan genuine accessory...like your spoiler or kickplate. 2) Off-Road: Will not carry a warranty. The delaer has no say as to what NISMO part will be warranted or not.

I can assure you that we are striving to make all the parts warranted. I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with some of the parts you will see at the SEMA show.

As for the turbo and supercharger....I've asked you guys a hundred times. What are you willing to pay for a warrantied kit and installation?...and how much of a power gain would you expect?

Regards,

If a warranted turbo kit came out, I would probably pay $4000-$5000 on it. I would expect some pretty nice gains though, like 75+ hp. If the gain was lower, I would also expect the price of the kit to match.

MR350Z,

Do you work with Nissan/NISMO in N. America or are you going to be a reseller? Just wondering if we have a new insider contact like ZISME.

I've never priced forced induction parts but I think I'd be willing to spend $5000 for 100 more hp including install and not affect the terms of my drivetrain warranty. That might not be realistic, but if it costs much more I'll just buy a new motorcycle.

I'm mainly interested to see what NISMO can do normally aspirated. I'd like to see a whole NA kit from NISMO that doesn't void warranty and all the parts are guaranteed to be compatable in the quest for more HP. Something like CAI, headers/exhaust, cams, chip upgrade, flywheel, and underdrive pully all as a package deal. I'd also like a guaranteed minimum HP increase.

Maybe even do a dyno pull pre and post to give proof of the increase.

Regards,

$5000-$6000 installed with 75-100 hp increase, and a non-voided warantee.

I'd pay up to $5k for around 100 hp gains with a turbo that doesn't void my warranty.

I love the car stock, but come on, there's no such thing as too fast.

I'd pay $3500 installed for an SC kit and a non-voided warranty.

To answer Jeff W's question, yes I do work for Nissan and have been visitng this site for some time.

I'm the Product Planner for the 350 and Nismo parts.....so I seriously value this forum's input.

Thanks for the info....keep it coming.

Best Regards,
Mr350Z

Based on previous responses, looks like the average cost per HP is about $50. How much HP can you really gain w/SC or TC? At that cost per/hp, it better be under warranty! -m

That's pretty much what I figured.

I would seriously consider a 75 hp or so SC in the $3-4 range, maybe a bit more with a warranty. I don't want to spend so much that I'd feel guilty for not going ahead and buying a Vette

I prefer a SC for durability (at least my perception based off of both types of cars I've owned), but I'd think about a turbo.

As said above, though, reasonable priced but effective NA mods would probably get my money first.

I've been thinking

As for a Turbo/Supercharger from Nismo/Nissan,

Do you guys really think it will be a bolt-on kit ?
How can they do it, ? We have a high compression ratio
I don't see Nismo offering lower compression pistons

I think that Nissan will do something like Mazda just did with the
Protege(sp?)
They release the NA versions, and they just released a MazdaSpeed Turbo Protege.

I think will see a NISMO 350z turbo

But we will have to buy a whole new car cause like the Protege it is not a bolt-on kit....................

5k-6.5k installed and with warranty. I think that this is somehwat reasonable for a SC. I figure a Turbo might be more. I really don't think a lot of people would be willing to void their warranties for 5-6k. I think that the biggest feature of all these parts is that it would be covered by warranty. That is why NISMO should shut out every other Z tuner. They have the key to success but if they will be smart enough to use it is up to NISMO/NNA. I think they would make a killing off a slew of N/A and FI parts. The more the better.

Exactly!!!

I would pay 5K for 100+hp installed with Nissan/Nismo warranty. Prefferably TT to reduce lag.
