Trying to find a low cost fix for my OEM exhaust tip. The inner pipe of the tip has loosened from the outer pipe, resulting in an awful vibrating sound that resonates throughout the whole car. On a student budget, not looking to replace the OEM muffler for an entirely new cat back system. Any suggestions for a low budget fix for just the tip?
I've heard/read that the tips can only be cut off and welded back on. Would like more options than frankenstein muffler though.
Are there any custom muffler fabrication shops in your area? Go there and show them what's going on. They might be able to fix it, or cut it off and weld a new tip on for a decent price. I used to work at a custom exhaust fabrication shop back in the day and we would take care of things like that all of the time for a relatively cheap price.
Absolutely. Tips/mufflers that far back don't get that hot. Only concern I'd have is vibration, not heat. And that's a minimal concern as the muffler doesn't vibrate as much as, say, a front resonator or catalyst.
This is all sounding great so far. Any tips (pun intended) for applying this epoxy? I have no way to clean the surfaces because the space between the two pipes is so tiny I could barely wedge a toothpick between them with effort. The vibration is at a really fast rate in a minuscule space just large enough to be annoying. Might be able to get a small syringe in there but idk if the epoxy would even make it through the needle...

lol Oh man. Good ole' JB Weld. I remember the two tube pack back in the day. When all else fails and you don't feel like leaving your garage to go spend money on the ''proper'' fix. (Thinks to self)Hey, I've got some JB Weld. Lets try that.. and if that doesn't work I'm F***ED.

I fixed the lower unit on my boat's 90HP outboard motor with this stuff. It developed a crack and was expensive to replace, so I just JB Welded it and crossed my fingers. It lasted nearly 2 years - in saltwater no less! Keep in mind a lower unit is basically the transmission of a boat engine where the engine's rotations are turned 90 degrees to drive the prop. Thus I always have some JB Weld in the garage
