Post 350Z Convertible - Change top petition

Okay, we've all seen the pics of the 350Z convertible with the top up and almost everyone has posted that they dislike it. (If you haven't viewed the pics, go here, then come back to this thread)

Since we're still several months from the droptop hitting the street, maybe we can do something about it.

If you don't like the look of the convertible top and would like it changed to better resemble the Coupe's roofline, respond to this thread!

Provide comments if you feel it is necessary, but keep them brief. And only respond to the thread one time!!!

If we get enough responses, maybe JManZ, VQRacer, or one of the other moderators could forward a copy of the thread to Nissan Corp to let them know how the real fans of the car feel about the top.

Probably, they'll do nothing to change it, but they will 100% definitely not change it if we don't speak out.

Okay... to be official, here is my vote to say I don't like the top. In fact, there is a good chance I will change my mind about ordering a convertible 350Z based on the poor appearance of the car with the top up.

And for those who don't want to jump to the other thread for a pic, here is the Redline top up photo...

Angry convertible

I put a deposit on a convertible in november 2002. I think I'm going back to the dealer to get my deposit back. Look's like $hit.

Although most don't like it I do. There's something about it that I like but I can't quite put my finger on it. Anyway, the boxster with it's top up isn't any more attractive than this car IMO.

EXACTLY, unless it is a hardtop cab (SL, slk or sc lexus) I will ALWAYS HATE cabs. it screw up the lines of the car and will always look like a tent on top. I saw a silver stone convert Z today in south OC, it looks just like all the other cabs out there. what do you espect? it is a cloth top!

I have held of buying a Z, because I was waiting on the convertible. Now that I have seen it, it doesn't do it for me. It doesn't keep the same profile/lines we all love so much on the new Z. If it came in a hardtop vert, I would buy one.

Guess I will be getting a coupe now.

Im usually not one to *****, but I think i have to agree. Check out what a difference it makes when you stretch the back out to the end of the indented cover thing.

A significant amount sexier if you ask me. Think it still looks great with the top down tho.

lol...

do you guys has nothing better to do than complaining the roof of a convertible car??

who cares for the look of the car with TOP? it's meant to be driven with the top down.

besides, the design is finalised already, and chances are the car is already in production. there's nothing you can do about it in terms of design, well...not untill the car gets its facelift anyway.

nah they wont change anything the car is finished, making that sort of change would be a huge cost, if its even possible, I dont think they set out to make the car look nothing like the coupes roofline.

however I already own a coupe, and never planned to buy a convertable, so what does my opinion matter?

anyway, ugly. glad I didnt waste my time waiting for pictures of the conv before buying my coupe.

I wonder if they are even going to offer a hard top add on for it... itd probably still have the same shape.

i don't agree what you say, a convert shouldn't just look good when its top is down, it should look good in any time. i mean.. be relistic, who here will be crazy enough to drive a convert with top down everyday when you goes to work or anywhere?

To me most roadsters look much uglier with the top up no matter what car it is unless it it a hardtop type(Lexus,MB).

I don't agree.. which is why I started this thread. It is probably unlikely to changed, but go back and look at the coupe pre-production model vs production model. There were things changed in the time frame we are talking about (5 months before deliveries).

And making a change similar to what collinsc has photoshopped is not that big of a change. It would require a little more top material and minor re-engineering of the frame mechanism. The motor, storage space, et al. would not have to be changed.

I certainly don't mind debating the look or ease of a change, but I really just wanted folks to say here whether they do dislike it so we would have something to present. Worst thing that can happen is they can make it with no changes, but I'll say it again... if no one says anything that is the only possible outcome.

remanber, the changes we are talking about here isn't something like simple shift **** swap or different dash colour.

it's not just about changing the design only. they'll also have to change the whole machanism if indeed they are going to change to design of the roof.

I'm still reserving judgement for when we see an actual production model on the streets. These cars that are flating around now could very well be early pre-production models, so the top could possibly be slightly different when we actually see the cars at dealerships. That said, I don't like it with the top up either. Almost reminds me a bit of the way the vette looks with the top up.

Default A Buyer

I've been waiting a number of years to replace my daily driver. Around three years ago I finally found the car that would do it for me. A roadster from from the get go, that's what I gleaned. I love the coupe's lines more than the rdstr's with the top up FROM THE 3/4 FRONT ANGLE. I'm certain that with the top up some views won't look as good as the CP. IMO it will dazzle the eye just as well, given the vantage. Few automibles totally satisfy the camera reguardless of composion.

Do you all know it is still the new 350- Z, and absolutely 99.8% of all that JOY?

If it's not too late, I'd love to see the fabric sweep back at an angle that better suggests the lines of the coupe. I wish the cup holders... uh, I mean the fixed mast antenna... uh, the citrus peel paint.......... f'get about it!

I'm buying one NISSAN. Y'hear? Tell me about the trim levels, please. I'd like an 6M Enthusiast Silverstone or Brickyard. Any chance? Any new color options? Can I pre order? Reguardless of the pain you (NISSAN) went through, you did it with very good scores. Let's see a poll on that topic. With all the variables tossed in, I'll guess at least an 80% satisfaction score, ON THE PRE ORDER OPTION. I'll take an 80% chance that I'll get my new roadster exactly on time and exactly as promised. What will push it up closer to 100% is the LA area dealer I choose ( trolling ?)

Bottom line...... I'll honk at you if you honk at me ;-).

You guys are right, the top looks terrible. The photoshop version looks very sharp, I'd be all over that puppy.
