Default Received today, 11/16/07

I received the Skunk2 dual exhaust today. It will not be installed until the middle of next week, but I did open the boxes to inspect for parts and/or damage from shipping.

The exhaust arrived in two large boxes. The slimmer of the two contained all the pipes and hardware; the wider box had just the muffler.

The boxes were in decent shape considering UPS delivered them. There was one box-band-aid on the box with the pipes in it.

The packaging and padding in the boxes were pretty good.

I only unpacked enough to make sure no major damage existed from shipping, so no close-ups or detail shots yet.

Now that I have the exhaust in-hand. I wanted to inform you guys of some facts (that differ from as advertised) as I know them.

The pipe diameter is not exactly 60mm as advertised. The pipe size at the flange that bolts to the cats are 55mm or 2 3/16", then it increases in size (apparently after the flex-pipe) to 57mm or 2 1/4" for the rest of the way back. You wouldn't notice unless you measured. Not necessarily a complaint, just an observation. The tip size was accurate at 110mm or about 4 1/4".

Though the generic product description of the Mega Power exhaust talks about the removable silencer(s), this particular application does not come with that option. At least mine didn't. The manufacturer's picture of the silencer suggests it attaches to a muffler that does not have a tailpipe section. The design used for this system does not allow this since we have tailpipes. If there is a special or different silencer for this design, I did not receive it in my shipment. This system does include "pre-mufflers" or resonators upstream though.

Included with the system are 4 flange gaskets and 8 bolts/nuts. I would have liked to see 2 more gaskets for the cat to pipe junction, since 4 gaskets will only cover junctions within the system itself, not the system to the rest of the car, i.e. at the cat.

From what I can see without taking all the pieces out of the plastic, the welds are really good. It is very apparent the welds are done by robots because the beads are very clean. The overall build quality is very good.

Just some initial observations. More to follow.

Excellent.

1. Silencers are optional and are just part of the pictures on the website
2. The cat to exhaust gaskets are usually not included in most exhausts by skunk2, apexi, hks and many others
3. The piping size does differ at times. Look at the hks and its not a 2.5" true dual all the way through

I hope I didn't sound like a jerk. I was not trying to say Skunk2 or THMotorsports intentionally mislead me or other buyers in any way. I was simply clarifying some specifics for this application that were different from the generic description, and some observations I made.

Default Installed pics

I installed this system in my garage by backing the Z onto some ramps. It was tight, but it's all done. I took a few pictures of the system prior to install, and some pictures of after the install.

Below are some details featuring the welds, flanges, tips, etc.

The system layout prior to install.

Installed.

Note: Camera flash caused buff marks on tips to look like scuffs. They have a good polish on them under normal light.
