Default shifter rattle

When i accelerate my gear shifter rattles i guess. I can pull up on the shifter and it stops. when i let it back down it starts again. is this the normal clutch chatter that everyone talks about? or is this something else i should take to the dealer.

I replaced my shift **** and added a **** finisher. It rattles now, as I accelerate. Sounds like a high pitched metal piece bouncing bouncing around inside a metal lunch box. Definitely not clutch chatter. The **** and finisher mate perfectly and are tight. If I place my hand on the shift **** while I accelerate, it goes away completely. Not sure what it is either.

I purchased the car in Feb/2003, and have never heard this rattling sound with the stock shift **** until recently.

Are you using the stock shift ****?
Or are you using an aftermarket ****?

Our OEM shift ***** come with a spacer. If your shift **** is loose (ie: you can loosen it with one hand) then that could be the source of your rattle.
Give it a twist to see..

If you are using an aftermarket shift ****, remove the spacer.

Hope this helps.

This is most likely do to the finisher rattling. Unless you have one of those ***** that dont' screw in and has to use three seperate screws to make it tight. When you accelerate, the shifter will vibrate more which is why it rattles. I had a similar problem. I bugged the hell out of me.

It's the ARC ****. It screws directly on the shifter. I would've thought it to be the finisher also, but dang the **** is on pretty darn tight. There is absolutely no play between the **** and finisher. The finisher is extremely snug. I'm thinking something else coinsidentally became loose during installation. Let me see if I can dig up the thread I made where I installed it. I post it in a few minutes....

I believe you might be right afterall. I took it out for a test spin yesterday. When it started rattling, I grabbed the finisher by itself with 2 fingers. Although it wasn't physically or visually moving, the rattling noise ceased. I'll probably just leave it alone. I don't drive the car often enough for it to bother me.

I got that irritating rattling noise from my shift ****... I took it to the dealer and they basically told me that it is normal for 350z's to get that issue. Well basically they were not very helpful. I am going to see if I can figure out what the heck is making all that rattling. For me it started off as this little noise rattling when i throttled but the issue worsened and now it is really loud when windows rolled up. If you guys know what this issue is let us know. Thx
