Hello to everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself here because I will be moving to Alabama soon. I love to track my Z and have heard great things about Barber Motorsports track there. I will be in the FT Rucker/ Dothan part of Alabama and would be interested in meeting some of you at the tracks. Any other local tracks I could go to for a weekend? I'll be very busy in school during the week, but weekends will be mine
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Steve

Zach,
I would ask the same question, but the military already gave me the reason.....orders! Anyway, I'll be out there for about a year, so I look forward to meeting all of you.
Do any of you track your cars?

I'm in Tuscaloosa. I've run a few 1/4 and 1/8 mile tracks around here, and ran the grand prix of Talladega last summer, would like to track again sometime soon.
I agree that we should all have a meet; perhaps in Birmingham or somewhere a little south of there?

Yeah, I have once. I don't remember the exact name of it, but it is about 20 miles northeast of Talladega. Me and some friends from ATL rented it for the day and all took our cars out there- it is a really really fun track, about 1.5 miles, flat with a variety of 45/90/180 degree and s-turns. We should look into renting it again...

That would be great.....the track wasn't the one that Porsche uses for their "Porsche Experience", is it?
Here: Barber Motorsports Track

Nah, the porsche experience is also at Barber. I would love to get on that track, but it is so expensive, and as a college student I don't have the cash to put up $600+ for racing school, I'd rather just run it myself and learn the lines myself for less, like at the other track.

I don't mean to run it with the school, but with a track group. Out here in Cali, we have many different track groups that put on track events at various tracks such as Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Buttonwillow, California Speedway, etc.... Do they have any groups like that in Alabama? I'll call Barber and ask them. I'll be pretty busy when I get there, so I don't think I would have the time or resoruces to organize a track day out there, although it would be really fun.

As far as figuring out the lines yourself......I wouldn't suggest that. Get an instructor to go with you and ride along to show you the lines. You'll learn faster and be much safer than just going by yourself. I've seen lots of people just run their cars off the track becuase they thought it was the same as a video game.
The track Wren is talking about is Talladega Grand Prix Raceway. It is about a 1.3 miles road course that is also host to several motorcycle events. I have done some AutoX in my Z but have since retired it due to my V3 body kit. The AutoX are done at the Birmingham Race Course (Dogtrack) parking lot. There are also 2 AutoX events this year at the Talladega Grand Prix track, including one this coming Sat. There are usually several Solo1 events there as well. If you work the course during a Solo 1 event, you get free track time. It is minimal (about 25-30 minutes during lunch and about the same at the end of the day) but it cures my need for speed momentarily.
So Steve, when will you be joining in this wonderful redneck state we humbly call AL?
