back in 2002 when I qualified for the dB Drag World Finals, I was not prepared for the size of the trophies. I had to disassemble my trophy to get it into my explorer...
(and I was only the 6th loudest Street vehicle in the world) but it was worth it!!

What?!?! Wad u hit? what was ur set up like??
(i used to be big into stereos)
It was back in the 2002 Season. I was concentrated on the dB Drag Racing circuit, but I attended a few USAC and MECA events, too. I got off to a late start in the season, and ended up switching from SuperStreet 1-2NoWall to the Street 3-4 class. If I remember correctly, I won 2 NOPI events, Florida State Championships, and finished off the season with enough points, and a certified SPL high enough (157.x dB) to qualify for the dB Drag World Finals in Nasville, TN.
Coming into Finals, no "Street Class" competitor has hit 160 on certified Mics yet, and that was everyones' goal. The basic rules for that class were a limit of up to 4 woofers, no larger than 12", 2 amps, 1 extra battery (no larger than stock), and all equipment and woofers had to be below the windows lines and must be completely in the cargo area of the vehicle (i.e. No Walls!! etc) and the CD player must be mounted in the stock location.
The Top 16 qualified competitors in each class from around the world were invited to attend. Once at Finals, you still had to qualify which meant being in the Top 8 at Finals. I had some technical difficulties but managed to qualify in 6th place. It turned out to be a bad CD player that was "square waving" on me. At finals, I could hit within .1 of db from 38 Hz up to 52 Hz bcause of this problem. The F'ed CD Player would allow me to tweak to achieve a peak note. I ended up burping at 42 Hz, but could only manage a 156.x dB. I got taken out in the 1st round of eliminations by the #3 qualifier.
When I later realized that it was the CD Player, I swapped it out and picked up 2.4 dB.
That wouldv'e taken me up into 3rd place.....1st and 2nd were CRXs...... a perfect car for the street class.
The equipment I was running was:
Pioneer top of the line CD player (can't remember the model)
2 Mmats d300HC factory modded amps (measured 2100+ watts rms each on my test equipment)
4 Beyond Audio Inhuman subs (custom built quad coil subs from Canada)
1996 Ford Explorer Limited
The next season, I competed a bit but gave up as I needed to spend more time working on my career.
Before I retired, I did attend the 2003 Spring Break Nationals where I was the #1 qualifier for my class, and ended up taking 2nd place (lost by 0.1 dB
