Pedobear (who's original name is Kuma, which is Japanese for "bear"...) originated from the Japanese 2ch boards as ASCII art. He became a reoccuring character around the boards, and has been immortalized in a drawn image, not just an ASCII image. On one of the 4chan forums, bickering between members started to take effect through the drawings - some of which became immature and sexual in nature. When he became well-known on 4chan and Americanized through this, his named changed from simply Kumo to Pedobear and more images and joking continued. The image has been associated and modified several times to include jokes and images with cartoons including underage girls. The pedophile information is not correct, nor has it been substanciated with any predators. It was simply an image of a Japanese character that was transformed into an American joke.
Americans.... we destroy any and everything sacred to Japan. Take ricers for example, and anime conventions like this guy:
I'm pretty sure he's TRYING to be Edward from Full Metal Alchemist. But WHY can't we just leave our Japanese friends alone?! Why I tell you? WHY?!!!!!

Pedobear is a form of godless bears, except that in addition to being a godless killing machine, they are godless pedophiles. It is a famous Japanese meme and is known in Japan as "Kuma" (meaning "Bear").
Parents beware! Pedobear has become a mascot for online pedophiles, specifically targeting innocent prepubescent girls. (Just google "pedobear" to find all those ungodly sites for lovers of immoral bears.)

But I lived in Japan for 2 years, so trust me, I know better. Alot of Anime is like that. ALL the girls look young, that's just how they always are - they draw em that way. If you think that's bad, you should see their game shows!!!
