Favorite "fun roads" around Raleigh and its surrounding area
I am new to the area. I am actually in Cary but anywhere 1-2 hr of Raleigh sounds reasonable. Now that I am somewhat settled in, I wanted to discover the area better; specifically finding fun roads/routes to just drive. It doesn't have to be anything crazy - just looking for pretty backroads with scenery with little to no traffic.
If you have a route or two, I'd love to take a look on a google map and plan it out.
Thanks.

The area's around Jordan lake and then north raligh have some good places. Towards the lake, go look for Old NC 87. It runs between the lake and Greensboro and is popular with the sport bike guys as well.
In North Raligh is Main bridge 5 road. It's off of NC 98 and has some great views as well. Scan the Cycle boards for other good places.

highway 64 between raleigh and ashboro is pretty rural. right past lake jordan it is two lanes seperated by a metal median that has no turn around points for cops going the other way. ive done 115 for 10 straight minutes before. once youre in a-boro, hop on 49 to charlotte, and its one lane each way, rural and crazy pretty especially in the fall
but yeah not a whole lot going on in terms of fun roads in raleigh. now that i think about it there is absolutely nothing in rals
