Default Road trip from CT to NC this weekend...

My girl and I are driving from CT to NC in the Z starting Thursday to see her daughter run in the Nationals in Greensboro on Friday. We are seeing a friend in Chapel Hill Friday night and looking for something to do/see in that area on Saturday. Is there something we will regret not doing or seeing in the Raleigh/Durham area while we're there? Our friend in Chapel Hill isn't helping much, nor is Google... Any ideas? We'll be heading back home Sunday morning. Thanks!

Ok, I guess NC is a big bore fest. I sort of figured that. If someone asked me what cool things there are to do in CT where I live, I'd come up blank too...

Nah, Mystic, the Peabody (not as good as it was), and that's about all I can remember about CT unless you want to chance a trip to Bridgeport and take the Port Jefferson Ferry to Long Island.

As far as sights to see in NC; where are you going to be and how long are you going to be in the area? And what are your interests?

Inland you have Charlotte, and Deal's Gap. Further out there is the Biltmore Estates. There is a nice wild animal park in Asheville. And the Exploris Museum and IMax theater in Raleigh.

As far as the drive; depending on time of day you may consider taking 13 to 17 vice I95. I95 is a bore, stops are a pain to plan, plus 13/17 will take you across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and by all kinds of decent restaurants etc.

I appreciate that, Dan. However 36 hours before go time, I was informed that the GF's daughter will not be running in the nationals after all! She decided to let her substitute run instead to be a swell person. So all the planning, buying of stuff, and mentally preparing for this drive is out the window. So screw it, I'm going to my father's in upstate NY instead...

No worries. I'm actually doing the reverse trip next week for my daughter's wedding. Unless the weather gets poor, in which case I'll take my F150.
