Sorry for the cross-post, just checking if I can get any suggestions directly from the Southwest forum.
I'll be moving to Arizona at the end of this summer and am looking ahead for a dog that will do well in the heat and can be left alone (in the house of course) for most of the day. I currently have 2 huskies and a samoyed and I cant take them with me, so I'm looking for a smaller dog that I can have there.
My first choices were English bulldogs or basset hounds, but my friend in AZ just got English bulldog pups and I can tell she's gonna have a lot of maintenence with them. Anyone have suggestions? I'm currently considering yorkies, jack russells and chihuahuas. A short-haired dog would be convenient for driving around in the Z as well.
Thanks in advance.

THIS is all the reason why everyone should have an English bulldog, belongs to my friend in Arizona's....... hard as hell to handle in Arizona but he's a BADASS PUP!!!
Jacks are fine, but leaving them alone is a no no without proper training. They get bored and are very destructive. I've got a mini-pinscher that seems to do well. He relaxes all day and sleeps when left alone. Any dog will do just depending on if your willing to shave them down for summer heat. Winter gets cold in the valley so don't let a dog with long hair really prevent you from bringing them out if you can.

I would love to adopt a bulldog but that just aint gonna happen. Now that I think about it, it might be too hard to take care of a dog in that heat and work as much as I do.
