Crazy Colorado State Trooper
I was coming down I-25 from Colorado Springs towards Pueblo yesterday afternoon having a nice drive. Traffic was reasonable and I was cruising along, trying to stay in the 10-mile-above-limit speed zone and not always suceeding. A couple miles north of mile marker 177 I pulled out to get around a tractor trailer rig that was kicking up dust. Took the Z up to around 98 mph to put some space between us and then I dropped back into the left lane of traffic, dropping my speed back down.
As I'm pulling into the left lane I look up the road and see a person creeping among the weeds behind the the guard rail. He crouches down and points what looks like a gun at me. I think "Sniper!?" He's pointing right at me and I almost instinctively changed lanes and sped up---but then I get closer and focus in enough to realize that he's wearing what appears to be a state trooper uniform and the gun was a radar gun. Totally bizarre.
How sneaky is that?
He must have had an accomplice somewhere in radio distance, because I certainly can't imagine him sprinting down the road waving his camera and his ticket book and having any success at all in pulling people over. I never saw a cop car, though. So either my 10-mile-above speed was acceptable, or he never caught me in his gun.
Moral of the story...watch out for the ones in the weed patches, out of their cars.

Be careful, the Colorado troopers use a non form of radar, where they use painted white lines, (normally after an underpass) and they sit above it.
When you hit the first line, they click a metered type device (non-radar) and when you hit the second line, they click it again. This caculates your speed, and your toast regardless of what fancy radar detector you have.
Just food for thought. Be safe!
I love the 75 mph speed limit in Co.

They were dressed as construction workers down here in the Springs for the I-25 expansion. The paper had a great picture of these guys in orange vests and hard hats holding radar guns while bulldozers and rigs were working around them, with motorcycle cops on the next overpass ready to come and ticket whoever they radio in for. Pretty crazy....
