Question Westwood College, Denver North Campus

Does/has anyone attended their Automotive Technology Program? Been doing some research on several schools. Like to get some personal experiences. Thanks!

Denver Auto and Diesel is a very respected school with direct hiring by OEM's like Porsche. One of their instructors actually wrote one of my favorite books on modern engine control systems.

UTI, if you really want to spend $20,000 to learn how to wrench on a car. You'll have an excuse to move back to Texas though, one of their campuses is in Houston. DADC is just as good if not better for less money. Then there's Intelitec College here in town. I've seen them advertise auto classes. They probably suck though. PPCC also has an auto program that's pretty decent, and you can just sign up for one or two classes that you're interested in. The nice thing at PPCC is that a lot of their classes are open entry/open exit. The welding class my buddy and I are going to take is that way. We show up whenever we want and leave when we want, the instructors are there to give hands-on training from like 8am to 8pm, so anytime in between we can just meet up there and weld stuff. I think their auto classes, at least some of them, are the same way. I've even seen students working on their own rides, so that's kinda nice since they have a twelve car bay and full machine shop on site.

I hear my alma-mater (Univ. Texas @ Austin) is looking to add to their 82,000 student base.

Went by IntelliTec & DADC/ Lincoln Tech yesterday. Both are great schools but I really liked IntelliTec over DADC. Classes are smaller and more hands on training.

I'm confuse. All this time I thought you can't read? I always thought you had your wife typed your comments and to make you feel intergrated she let you add in the smillies!

Will seems to know a whole lot, I say we just pay him a few bucks to talk. I remember back in 2003 when they had the "ask any questions about cars" thread. Will responded to most questions with God like convictions. Everyone thought he was part of the Nissan design team including me. I was very happy to be able to meet him and shocked that he was younger than me!

Anyways, good luck Robert with the school..........."A" is use to spell "Apples"

As$! Will does know his stuff but when I apply for a job I don't think they'll accept "Will from My350Z taught me everything I know."

LOL!! I only talk a big game, but so does everyone in the Motorsport Engineering program at CSU, so I guess it rubs off on me. Actual wrench time is no more than most. I just finished an engine swap for my buddy and his 240sx, an SR swap into another friend's Sentra last September, and some other projects. But when Robert's done with his school, he'll be able to help me figure out just how in the hell to make my Z's automatic windows work like they should. At least, I hope he can since no one at the dealer seems to have a clue, and I'm lost with trying to figure it out myself.

I don't know...have you ever noticed that you never see Will Mast and Ross Brawn (Ferrari F1 technical director) in the same place at the same time?

You know I had the same problem with my windows. First I took out the door panels and clean up the regulators. I was suprise how dirty they were. They worked for about a week and died again. I think I'll just have to replace the hole motor. I've read that you can buy a motor at Autozone cheaper than the dealer's. Honestly, taking the door panel and the motor out wasn't all that hard. In fact it was fun for me cause I pretended to be "Will" for a few hours.

Hey Robert. Are you seriously considering a career change?

LOL. My issue is a little more technical I think, the motor works fine when I test it. I think it's an issue with the CAN not functioning on the right parameters. It's not affected by temperature or anything else, it just doesn't go up any more when the door closes. The circuit is good and I cleaned the motor, but nada. I think the CAN system is not responding or registering. But that's what I don't know for sure: whether the system is a simple resistor type, or actually controlled by the network parameters. I have a FSM, but don't care enough to dig through it.

Robert, awesome career choice, there's plenty of work for an ASE certified tech. Get a good rep and you could own your own shop, or get in with MAC and start building some high hp machines. Plus, I've been looking for a good friend in the mechanic business to mooch supplies and tools from

LOL Thanks! Seems like the right career to go into right now. I'm hoping to graduate with my ASE Master Tech certs. Ultimate goal is to have my own shop. Learned that San Antonio doesn't have any tuners so I think I might look into tuning various EMS. As far as tools... Need that part-time job at Sears.

This is a great time to be getting into that field. If you open a shop in San Antonio, I'll have a place to come down to and get my car wrenched on if my wife and I decide to move back to Austin!
