What to get?
The car is for me though on snowy days he'll take it and I'll have the truck. He really doesn't care what the hell we get as long as he isn't embarassed to be seen in it and it can go fine in snow.
And i like the evo except insurance would be a ***** and for under 30k it's a pretty bare bones model compared to a 27k speed6 which is under a second slower in the 1/4 but has leather and keyless entry/start
plus i don't trust myself with an evo haha

I just picked up an Outback wagon in November. I like it but its a little on the slow side. But that's why I've got my Z. The Outback would meet all your criteria except the 1/4 mile time. Throw a turbo on it and it would. Or just get a WRX, STI, or Legacy GT.
STI isn't an option because insurance and i don't like cop magnets.
WRX wagon isn't bad but i think all iimpreza's with a turbo tend to have hefty insurance.
Legacy gt, as i said before. It's a nice car but it doesn't really do anything for me and at the under 30k price, it's a fairly bare model compared to other choices.

i vote for Mazda speed 6, i've been an old fan of mazda's. I used to own an MX-6 before the Z, and it's reliability can be beat, it's more unique (if that matters to you) the insurance on one will most likely be less. The speed 6 comes with an AWD 6 speed, it's in the 14's for the qaurter mile (some people putting down stock in the high 13's at sea level).
I think I'm going to be buying one for the soon to be wifey here in a few months.... I also like the way they look too, better than the legacy GT IMO, and the STI's... they are nice, but again I dont like they way they look, and they are too much of a "ricer-racer" car IMO, same issues with the evo's though they are admitedly as nice as the STI's... But I guess you have to choose on your own right?
