Default Buyer Beware

Wanted to let everyone know about some of the area Car Toys so as to spare you all of what I have had to endure. In brief, Greeley and Aurora car toys jacked up my Z. the Park Meadows location had to clean everything up and were the only ones that did the job right. i would advise that you only trust the Park Meadows Car Toys with your Z.

If you have time and like to read... alot, here is what happened.

Back around July 13th I was in Greeley and decided to put a KVT911DV (dvd, tv, satellite radio), KNADV210 (navigation unit), escort 8500, zr3 lazer shifter, and an APC Power Inverter in my Z. I told the installer to keep the 6 disk Bose system in the car. He said "no problem, i'll be done around 1200 am tonight". At around 1230 or 0100 am I showed up, he showed me some basic controls, and i left. the next day i could not see the nav unit on the screen and the sattelite radio would not come over the speakers. i took the car back two days later and he "fixed" the problems. two days later, my car battery was dead when i got off of work! I now took the Z to the aurora car toys as i no longer trusted the Greeley installer. the install manager at the aurora location was very empathetic and proffesional. he cleaned up the install and informed me that he had found alot of bad wiring. the next day i went on leave for two weeks and drove to illinois. the nav unit was tracking and had my route programed in. when i stopped for gas and then turned on my car to leave, i noticed that my route was erased, the clock on the radio reset to 1200, and my preset channels were wiped as well. to top it all off, my nav unit was nolonger tracking. according to it, i was in a river. i called the aurora install manager and told him what was going on. he apologized and promised to fix everything when i got back. that was good enough for me until, 5 minutes later, my A/C stopped coming out of the vents. the fan was running but nothing was coming out. about and hour later i turned the A/C back on and it was working fine? I then realized that damage had possibly been done to the car itself. I then noticed that condesation was building up on the touch screen of the head unit and that the jammers at the front of the Z on the zr3 were loose. I called the 800 car toys customer service number and they said that the regional manager would call me asap. he did. he wanted me to go to the park meadows car toys and said that he had an installer there who had worked on many 350's. park meadows took my car in and reinstalled everything. they stated that they had found my A/C tube jammed against the head unit behind the dash. that was what had caused the condensation problem on the screen. to sum it up, park meadows car toys did what the greeley and aurora locations couldn't. they were very profesional and fixed it all. if you want to get anything professionaly installed, trust only the Park Meadows location.

FYI i wouldnt trust a car to any corporate run business such as car toys/best buy/circuit city... . the corporate offices are only in it for the money and cut cost where ever possible.. and that includes highering lower qualified installers at a lower pay rate.

go to smaller privately owned shops.. they will pay much more attention to detail.. you may pay a little more but it is worth it.

I totally agree. I had my entire system installed by car toys, they did a great job, but they scratched 3 panels, and it is taking them over a month to replace them. But thats not the problem.

They scratched my car, and its so deep it has to be repainted. I got the Regional Manager involved because Car Toys lied and said they didnt scratch it and I didnt show them they scratched it when they picked it up. Well, luckily I had it on paper that there were no scratches on it when I dropped it off.

Bottom line they are in it for the money trust me. They are not getting any more of my $. I was planning on doing a NAV install in my Maxima, but forget it now.

Beware, Heck ya.

I don't wanna bash the installer, he did a heck of a job, but I'm pissed that Car Toys is toying with me and not wanting to repaint my car.

If I'm not mistaken, if you can feel the scratch you can't buff it out, is that correct?

Anyway, the installer says he doesn't want to touch my car again because I am 2 picky. Unbelievable! Hmmm, I guess spending $30K is 2 picky.

Anyway, what sux for the installer is he is having to pay for all the damages, while Car Toys reaps the labor charges I paid them.
Once again, not my problem!

If only I was mechanically and electronically inclined.

The sad part was, I was their first Z to work on, I found out after the fact. Oh well, "Car Toys, SHOW ME THE MONEY" and fix my dang car already.

BTW, they scratched my glove box cover, and the funny part is they have to replace the entire glove box, and not the door. $240.

Who's worse, Lawyers, Car Dealers, or Nationwide Chain car stereo outlets?

that is bullsh*t... when i was in college i worked for circuit city as an installer... they carried insurance so if week f*cked anything up it would be taken care of... here is the deal:

if there are no reported damages to vehicles within a certain time period.. the managers get bonuses!.. that is why he is not doing anything for you... you need to call the corporate office and get his *** fired and get your car fixed

Thats what I thought. Car Toys general manager said the insurance is for major damage, fire, theft, ect.

Anyway, I am going in today at 1100 to get the panels replaced and hopefully we can work a solution on the scratches.

One thing is for sure, if they can't get the scratches out, the car is being repainted by a body shop of MY choice. (Colorado State law states that).

Anyway I will let you know how everything comes out.

I guess my license plate that will be here in a few weeks is not the right one for me. PUREVIL

The funny thing is, Car Toys had me for another $4000.00 for another project for my wife's Maxima. Hmmm, can we say see ya!

BTW, does anyone know a reputable stereo shop in Colorado Springs/Denver area? I prefer CS area but can settle for Denver.

Thanks for any help you could provide me.

Sill, my 10" sounds like absolute garbage when turned up, I can't believe this, I spend over $4K and the %^&%@*&'s can't even get my car to sound half way decent. Mids/HIghs sound great but a major prob with the sub.

Car Toy's answer was what do you expect, its just 1 10" woofer. And BTW, I had a Power 10 (38lbs) in there before and that sounded terrible. I really think they did a shady job on the box, but these are there words about the box. :Sir, does the sub work and produce bass", the "we did our job"

Horseshi%. Anyway I'm trashing the box and the 10" and putting my RF 12" HX2's in a custom made fiberglass enclosure in the trunk and it will like nothings there.

I am just trying to find a reputable dealer to do the work.

Car Toys quoted me a price of, get this, $1500.00 to do the work. Can we say PLEASE. And the sad part is, I already have the subs, so it was labor and minimal materials.
