High Performance Drivering Event @ Buttonwillow - May, 6
Definitely so Clint, definitely so. In addition, he can probably come on out, meet some of the folks running their cars, and scrounge a couple of "right seat" rides to get a feel for what it is about. Should be plenty of fun and a good orientation at the same time.

You should have no trouble getting a ride. Come early and you can attend the driver meeting for the rookies/newbies. That will provide a nice introduction to what you can expect, get a primer on the various flags, rules of the day etc. Then you can just check out the cars, talk to drivers and ask for a chance to get a ride along. I have a couple of things I need to get squared away on my car still, but it should be ready to go by next week, and so if I am up there you can probably grab a ride with either Clint or myself, or even both. I will bring an extra helmet just in case you come, and you will be welcome to use it (it is practically brand new and only been worn twice, so it is pristine and clean-a Bell M3 Pro).
As a passenger you will have to sign a liability release form, and you need to wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt, made of cotton (no synthetics please), cotton socks and closed toe shoes. These are all for skin protection in the event of fire or flying debris that might scratch. Windows are all the way down when you run on the track for safety, but that means that occasionally something comes in a window. (for example small bits or ***** of rubber from tires...so called "marbles" ....can come rocketing through the air as you close on someone from behind. Usually they just thump off the hood, windscreen, roof or side panels. But I have had them catch the rear view mirror housing and carom off just precisely enough to scoot right through the window and into my arm, chest, and even the side of my helmet. They aren't very big, but when you are moving fast...you don't want melting rubber smacking your skin! Also a good reason to keep your visor DOWN even though you are in a fully enclosed street car. ) Just send Clint or I a pm and let us know how to recognize you when we get up there.
You will want to bring a comfortable portable chair or chaise, a cooler with some drinks and water, and some snacks. There is a snack bar/grill there, but ........
Possibly some shade awning too in case you are prone to sunburn. It will be a long day in the open air.
Riding in the car on the track is like being on a roller coaster ride...except it goes on and on and on for 20-25 minutes!! You are hanging on, bracing in the turns, holding your breath against g-force in the sharp turns....it is definitely not a "sack of potatoes" passive experience even as a passenger. And if you are driving...well it is just quantumly more fun because of the interaction, commanding that car to leap and dance its way around. It is not like any kind of street driving (certainly not unless you are one crazy person!) you have ever seen or done.
My G is a white coupe with the number 03 in blue on the lower rear panels just in front of the tires on each side. I think Clint has the black oval with the white numbers 949 on the side of his white G sedan.
Excellent Reply Ed!
By all means come out. It'll be an excellent primer and we hope you'll be coming back again as driver.
btw ... my car number was 929. I've switched to 959.
Hey Brandon ... you know you want this, so JUST DO IT!!!

helmet is also good when aaron biterman takes you out in his evo and drifts throught he mud at willow springs
ive got too many reasons not to go, being out of town is just one of them
but if things change i might come out to watch or maybe squeeze my way in if a slot opens up.

Unfortunately, I can't make it out to this one guys. I am going to try my hardest to get out to one of the events in May though. The next time you see me, my new suspension will be on the car, and I should be humming along quite nicely.
