Skyline GTR Concept info.
In the latest "Car" magazine, Issue 486 w/ the the Aston Martin Vantage and the new Rolls Royce on the cover, they have an interview with the Mr. Tamura the brains behind the GTR.
Pick up an issue if you want to read the whole article... but here's some interesting stuff he mentioned about the new GTW.
1] Ghosn told the GTR team that the car must be global. So we get it!
2] They abadoned the inline six used in the R34, etc. because the cost to make it a left hand drive would double. The intake is on the left hand side which is the big cost factor.
3] The GTR team working on the next car is working with Tamura-san's motto image of "If I work hard I can buy a GTR. Beating a Porsche means nothing... {more} ... Emotion counts for so much more." So they are doing what they did with the Z and is trying to stay loyal to the fans. He says to "Be patient, trust us, we will make it for you."
4] He mentions a quip about image... "When you look at Porsche, people spending that sort of money buy into an image. Porche has a heritage of fast, hard, race-bred cars. But the reality is softer. The GT3 is soft. The Boxster is soft. Maybe 70% of 911 turbos sold in the US are automatics."
5] His GTR output 500 BHP. He says > 1000 BHP is achievable.
Pick up an issue and check out the Vantage too. Nice.
Anyways... Car magazine should pay for this shameless promotion, but the GTR interview was worth it.
