Default J-walking in Socal?!? (San Diego)

Anyone ever got written up for J-walking?

I was in downtown, took a few steps right before the hand started blinking red.
A cop decided to make an example of me since I was behind the last one in the group. I was compliant at the time because it was intriguing to get written up for something so trivial.

Anyone ever get one of these tickets and know how much they run for?
I guess he was a new cop since he had me sign the wrong line on the ticket.
He was polite but this seems like a hassle no?

Any advice? thanks.

CODE:
~ 21456(b) “Don’t walk” or “wait” or “upraised hand,” pedestrian crossing against.

Tell it to the judge - I think you're allowed in the intersection while the sign is green and that the blink red is only a warning not to enter the crosswalk.

They write people up for it all the time in westwood. Fuggin cops have nothing better to do.

I have never gotten one personally but I have seen many others get them.

I just look out for the cops, if the coast is clear then I will cross.

Generally, it's a money maker and a quota filler. You can live in Manhattan, NY since you can J-walk infront of cops and not get a ticket.

Yup, was not a cheap ticket. I invited him to floor seats to watch the lakers, so he took the ticket as a "thanks"

It would really depend on where you were when you crossed. There has been a real problem lately with people crossing when they weren't supposed to (if the light starts blinking and you aren't already crossing, don't start). Several people have been hit recently, including that Indian woman who got killed in front of the convention center. I see it all the time. Try fighting it, you might win.

Bumper to bumper one-way traffic....cars moving like 2 mph.
There had to have been like twenty or more people who crossed that street with me. And half a dozen crossing illegally while I was getting written up.

His rationale, "Drunk people get hit by cars all the time so we're trying to protect you guys."

Me thinking, "If I was drunk would I see a blinking hand, or care about using the cross walk at all?"

I'm usually compliant and courteous to cops, especially street cops (since they're a little more vulnerable) but the more I think about it, I should have just took off running like a bat out of hell.

Off-topic: Damn, talk about thread revival! Last post before this one was 06-28-2006. What's the record for one of these anyway?
