Use a really LIGHT rubbing abrasive compound......... For example....... The
3M Perfect- It Rubbing Compound I think you can ask some of the guys a Pep boys what they think of this product......

You can also try to clay bar it first. Not too long ago, CalTrans was painting the white divider line on my street. I ran it over and got some paint along my sideskirts and door. I used clay bar and it all came off.

WD40 does wonders for removing overspray. I would try this first. Second I would try 3M POLISHING compound. This is not nearly as abrasive as rubbing compound, which I would leave as your last resort.

If nothing else works try goof-off/oops cleaning formula, but make sure you polish after or it will leave a faded look.-thats what we use at Toyota.

The only problem I see with doing it yourself, is that some products can be considered "light" as Janet mentioned, but if you have no experience using them, you can end up burning through your clear. I'd suggest using a good body shop and just having them buff it out for you. Will save you headaches and time and will come out showroom new. Since you are in Costa Mesa, I suggest using:

Someone maliciously sprayed my car with spray can paint when I was in college. I had a detailer come out and the guy removed it all. Costed 115 bucks. He had a special cleaner that cleaned it all off. He then buffed, polished and waxed it. Car looked great afterwards.

If you are going to try this yourself, I would start with the least aggressive method first and then work my way up. I would probably start with claybar and a lot of lube. If that doesn't work, maybe wd40 or goo gone. You'll def need to clean and wax after that and there is a possibility you could haze your finish. If that happens you'll need to buff and polish and then wax. If that doesn't work, I would stop and seek a professionals help. Why not try asking at http://www.meguiarsonline.com or http://www.autopia.org I think a lot more professional detailers will read it there than here. Good luck.

edit: ouch, old thread. So what did you do? how did it end up?
