Just some food for thought. Remeber if your still in the states when u re-up that 40K won't be 40K because taxes will rape you. Also you gotta ask yourself is 3 weeks leave worth 4 more years of B.S.
My advice is just go to finance and "top up" your GI bill, and file for disability and just chill as a civi and go to school.

my friend is reuping and he's going to Iraq next month for a week to reenlist so his bonus is gonna be tax free. he's only getting 37k but he's only a corporal. I'm gonna pick up seargant soon so it'll be around 40k. and as a seargant, its less bs to deal with than like a lcpl or pfc. I'm still thinking about all my options so its not set in stone. I'm just thinking about it. plus the BAH might be worth it. no barracks bs.

 

not necessarily Iraq 3 times. I can go on the meu which goes to like japan, Hawaii, Singapore, austrailia, etc. but I might choose to go to Iraq cuz there is nothing to buy out there and u end up saving a good amount of money. I donno still thinking about it

 

Wow going back to re up in the sandbox, but I'm guessing he's staying there unless you guys are in a socom unit.
Also with re up you will be reassigned no doubt about it to another post, and most units don't let E5's live off post.
Also if you re up that's how they get you because when your window opens up next you won't have pretty re up options because once they get you for 8 they are sure that you will stay. Because you gotta look at it like this. When people re up they probably already served 4 than they add on another 4, so when it's time for them to get out they don't because they already have 8, so they say why not and just do the 20. Trust me on this I've seen it happen to many times.

 

I'm guessing your in the Marines, because when I was still in the Army hawaii was still getting tagged for deployments, although I don't know how it is now.
But your re up options as far as Nipon, Singapore, and Aussie are nice provided that you can lock em in.

dude I'm in the air wing. my last deployment, there were like 5 guys from a unit I kno that came to Iraq, hung out for 3 days, reenlisted, hung out for another 3, and went back home to get the tax free bonus. what I do in the military is like an actual job. I work and go home. plus after your 2nd term the bonuses suck. I know a few people that got out after their 2nd term. and yea I'm in the marines. and going on the meu for me is pretty easy. I just ask for a spot and I'll mos likely get a spot cuz I'm THAT good. haha
