Care for authentic Japanese food?

South Bay (Torrance/Gardena)
1. Inaba -- Very good tempura/ sushi place.

2. Seafood Kappo -- Superb sushi restaurant (pretty pricey)

3. Sanuki no sato -- Very good Japanese food. Gotta love their pork cutlet.

4. Shin-sen-gumi -- Several restaurants. Yakitori/ ramen places are both good.

5. Spoon House -- How about Japanese style spaghetti?

6. Curry House -- Anyone into Japanese style curry?

...too many to list.

Cypress:
1. Echizen -- Very good fish cooked Japanese style

Irvine:
1. Fukada -- Indulge in their organic Japanese food. Their Udon noodles are good.

Poquito Mas - Awesome Mexican food. There are several around LA. The nicest one is in West L.A. on Olympic and Westwood. The other one I go to is in Burbank on Olive near Buena Vista.

There's also a Zankou Chicken in Glendale on Verdugo and Colorado for those who are interested.

This did pretty well ... here's a draft of a compilation. I'm positive I made a lot of mistakes as far ethnicity/catagory and city. Help me correct this list and I'll start another thread with a nice and shiny list.

The (*) denotes more than one recommendation.

Also keep in mind that there may be more than one chain of a perticular place. Check for possibly a closer one to your area (not that you mind driving around in a Z)

Another vote for Tito's Tacos here...though my friends used to joke that they used cat meat in their enchiladas

Johnny's pastrami next to Tito's

Fatburger! Much better than Tommy's, IMO.

El Cholo's on Western.

CPK (various locations)

Dar Meghreb on Sunset - great lebanese food with belly dancing!

Bombay Palace on Wilshire - great Indian food.

Wood Ranch - Camarillo and Northridge - awesome bbq ribs and tri-tip.

Aioli's in Torrance has great mediterranian food.

Song's, which is right next to Saladang's (same owner) in Pasadena is excellent for Thai food and has a more unique menu, better ambience and is slightly more expensive than Saladang. There are a ton of Thai places in LA but this one stands out.

If you guys think Kuala Lumpur is good for Malaysian food, you haven't tried *real * Malaysian food. There's a place called Little Malaysia in El Monte that's way, way better than Kuala Lumpur.

Now I'm getting hungry!

yes, I forgot about Woodranch BBQ. There's also one at the Grove (3rd and Fairfax) so you don't have to drive to the Valley anymore. Awesome food.

And whoever said Stinking Rose, thanks - went there last night to the one in 90210. Great when you need a garlic fix - altho I didn't dare try the garlic ice cream.

Ok, gotta add one.

TGIF - Woodland Hills (+other locations)

You MUST order their 'Sesame-Jack Chicken Strips' appetizer. It's too good.

They also have some tasty desserts.

Their special mix drinks seem overpriced, but they're HUGE. Get a ultimate run runner and you're set for the evening.

Ryan,

Carne asada fries...san diego....you wouldn't be talking about Albertos would ya?

BTW, for those that haven't ever had carne asada fries, there are no words to describe them. When you're crunked and driving a car seems like you're in a videogame, there's nothing better for the belly.

Brooklyn, remind me never to drive next to you when you're in your video game mode.

But seriously folks, drink responsibly! Insurance is too high as it is!

There's Alberto's, Roberto's, Juanberto's, Alejandro's, El Cotixan.. So many and there's more than one of each.
