To me, the movie was okay... saw it on Friday... both theaters were packed... sat in the very first row... argh.

not bad, not great... interesting though. not even sure that was arcadia, but that's not a big deal.

I saw this on Saturday at Century City. It was really packed filled mainly of course with Asians and some of the indie crowd. I don't know why people are afraid to express their opinions on this movie. I ask my gf what she thought about it and she says "I don't know." I ask my other friend and she says, "I don't know." Are people afraid to give a dissenting opinion because they don't want to put down their own race. I also heard coming out of the theatres that people didn't like it.

I for one didn't think it was a great but it was a good statement movie. It shows what Asians go through (a little bit more thuggishly than my life) but its a MOVIE! Hell! I'm proud of it, I was in the Academic Decathlon. We didn't go very far but I was still there. I think the characters need a little more development but overall, it was decent. I think the non-Asian crowd would probably enjoy it more because Asians try to relate it themselves too much and which for the majority of them, isn't true.

I applaud Justin Lin.

HAH! me too. "A" group, 1992. I think we came in 2nd or 3rd in LA county. I was Super Quiz champ (that year I knew that the breast implant company having problems was Dow Corning).

Damn! I hated that Super Quiz. I don't remember anything about it because I think my mind went blank during the whole competition.

Anyway, the truth is the hardest core gangster from Arcadia is probably still small fish compared to Los Angeles gangs.

Young asian hoodies, if you're reading this, Arcadia ain't all that glamorous. Nor does being a rich asian kid with an attitude in Arcadia make you anywhere close to 'hard'. Trust me, most of your time will be spent at some SAT prep. And yes, it is possible to graduate high school and not speak a lick of english. Sad... but true.

That said, this movie sparks some asian pride in me. It's good to see good moviemaking that has more current (though unrealistic) cultural focus.
HAHA, I read about this movie but had no idea it was set at Arcadia HS till I saw this post. When I met my wife she was going there and I would always make fun of the tough "Arcadia Homies" whenever I would go see her. Compared to the HS I went to it was a country club! well, who knows maybe alots changed in ten years.

Because Arcadia is an hour drive away from Riverside?
I do see more and more Zs around, at least one a day. And theres a Redline 2 blocks away from my house.
