Default German Castrol Syntec 0w-30..

For those of you that use this oil, The autozone in Santa Clarita off Whites & Soledad Cyn rd. still stocks it. Ive been buying this oil from them for the past 5-6 months. Everytime go there to buy oil, I always expect it to be no longer sold but i guess its regular inventory for them. Just a heads up for those who say the German formula is no longer made.

The one that is sold now is the reformulated version. It is no longer green like the original oil and doesn't smell like gummy bears.

It you ever used the green formula and got a UOA from it, send some of this off for a UOA and compare them. I would be interested to see how it stacks up to the original.

the oil itself was green and smelled like gummy bears. The new version looks like regular oil and doesnt smell like gummy bear.

It is still a very very good oil though

I believe in the U.S., it's only available at Autozone.

The green color was a dye that was added up to around 2005. The current formulation had a slight change in the additives, but from all accounts it's basically the same and is still a very good oil. There's some good info on the BMW forums if you're interested.

I dont know about being a good oil. It hasn't worked for me. Since I switched to castrol syntec 0w30 I keep losing oil every oil change. The last one I lost about 1 1/2 qt and thats after 4k miles. When I was on dino oil I didnt' have any problems. So next oil change Im switching back to Castrol GTX 10w30.
