all depends where in those areas. some good, some not so good. It also depends on you, what my idea of nice is might not be the same as yours.

If you find the names of a few places and addresses, I would be willing to go check them out a little for you.

there is some new development in the San yasido area, and I would think it would be cheap than San Diego's average.
Yeah, 1300 for a 2 bedroom in a nice area is indeed impossible. It's more like 2k a month lol

I dont know where you guys are looking, but I rent a 3 bedroom house with a garage for 1800.00 a month in one of the nicest neighborhoods in SD (nicest = low noise, low crime, low traffic)

My buddy is stationed in San Diego, and commutes from Mexico. Pays around 700/mo for a 4 br house, it's a really nice house.

I lived in El Cajon and got a decent 2 br 1000sqft condo with 2 car garage for 1100. it was in a decent neighborhood, not the best but definitely not the worse i've been in.

I also lived in a 'bad' area called Golden Hills, just north of a really bad area in SD. The apartments i lived in was gated with gated parking and it seemed far away from the crime to make life enjoyable.

Santee is similar to El Cajon, they are just a bit further east. Alpine starts becoming a commute and I would stay away from Spring Valley in general.

If you need to be south, check out some places in Chula Vista. There are slums there and also new and very nice areas in CV.

I found most of the places i've lived on craigslist.org I live in Mira Mesa now and if you want to live a bit north of SD but not N. County, check out Rancho Bernardo
