Well it's been a long long process but I believe it's finally here. I applied for CHP over 4-5 months ago and have been doing all the test and background checks which I have now passed! Only one test left in front of me before the academy!!
Soon I will be pulling over little ricers like you J/K

I had no idea so many Z enthusiasts were Law Enforcement bound! I applied to VC Sheriffs Dept. right when I turned 19, and 6 months later I find out I'm academy bound Jan. 26th!
Congrats and GL to all!

As for conditioning, you want to be in the best shape of your life the day you get there. It will make things A LOT easier...trust me. The physical conditioning portion of the training is a Bee-a-ch and the less stressed you are about that, the more you can concentrate on more important things like your LD's (Learning Domains). Academics are just a tough. Learning things like your 10 codes, CVC (California Vehicle Code) and PC (Penal Code) before you get there will help. They will teach you to shoot and all the physical methods of arrest, etc.
Lot of people go from LAPD to other dept.'s after their training...very sad. I worked for LASD for a few years and applied for CHP (once upon a time). I qualified in the 1st ranking, but died on the list when there was a hiring freeze. Great academy and top notch training from what buddies tell me. Just remember, the CHP's badge says traffic officer right on it, but they make more felony stops in the State than any other agency. Not a ton of back up and you really have to use your head.
Good luck and keep your eye on the big picture. Black Monday is not so bad and you'll make it if you remember that everything is done for a purpose. Last piece of advice....be up front and honest in everything you say and do. The job is dangerous and is 100% ALL about integrity.

Especially as a CHP, i'm not going to tell you to be a push over cop and not issue tickets(since that's mainly what you will be doing) but just really remember how much you will impact someones life with a ticket, and think if whatever violation they committed honestly warrents a ticket and not a warning.
aside from that, again good luck!
