Can anyone tell me why racing harnesses have a "valid until" date? Does the material give out and they're not longer legal after that or what? I never understood this

^^ maybe due to the fact that after that time period the odds of the materials holding up in a serious collision are lowered?

That's what I figured the manufacturer would tell people, but I find it hard to believe that you could tear one of those during a crash.
