Moving to Ventura County

Moving to Ventura County
Does anyone else live here? I would like to know more info about this area. To be specific, I will be stationed in Port Hueneme, but I've heard Oxnard is filled with cholos(gangbangers), any truth to this?
Where do you recommend getting an apartment/townhouse 1600-2000 range? Camarillo, Thousand Oaks etc... somewhere around 30 mins travel to work. Gated community preferably.
Areas, cities, towns to avoid?
Recommended restaurants?
Nissan dealerships that you might recommend or avoid?
What is there to do in the area? Besides travel to LA.
Beaches? Good or go somewhere else?
Any help would be appreciated.

Nissan dealerships in VC from what I know don't know squat. As far as oxnard goes it's reportedly the "gang bang" city of VC. Camarillo is nice and T.O. is very nice (I work in T.O. from Simi) and commute to Camarillo every week for academy training.
As far as anything to do... beach, beach, & ventura beaches are WAY too cold imo. Zuma is a lot better. and your occasional trip to Hollywood.
I think Camarillo still has saturday night "street races" (car meet, which usually consists of a lot of hispanics and their trucks)

San Diego PT Loma
San Diego Coronado
San Diego N. Island
Seal Beach CA
PT. H. CA
In that order, so I knew I was going to get PT H.
I've been contemplating Camarillo because I hear more and more about the gang problem in Oxnard. I've heard T.O has gangs, but not as bad as Ox. I spoke with Jeff@westcovina, but I don't know if he might have a semi-used Z in my price range.
Usually small towns have some of the weirdest dealers.

I lived in Ventura for ~20 years. The cops dont f*ck around when it comes to imports (they used to have a HUGE street racing problem).
Oxnard had major gang issues but Chief of Police Chrombach cleaned that city up pretty well.
Camarrillo is expensive but very nice to live in. Moore Park is cheaper but a longer drive.

Newbury? Never heard of it. I'm going to do some research on it.

I'm not planning on drop too much moola, other than the wheels/suspension and rear windows tint.
I can't stand street racers.
I read about the Chief of Police taking care of business and setting up a 6 (or 16) sq mile gang free zone just outside of port hueneme.
I'd give Camarillo a shot if it's peaceful. Money is no object, us military make a ton of it...
