9/20/03 Sat Palomar/Laguna/PineValley Drive
Update on the drive. I posted at a few other car forums. Looks like we may get up to 10 BMW joining us...bunch of M3 and others. Looks like they've been itching to have a ride in the twisties for a while. S2K group has and is having a few drives in the future (usually starting 7AM or earlier), unsure how many will make this 9/20 drive, should be at least a few. So plenty of cars to look at and talk about, meet the owners, etc. Looking forward to it!

Reminder...the drive is this Saturday 9/20. For those of you wanting to also go to the Nissan Bash at Mossy Nissan in Oceanside, you can go on the drive in the AM with us, then bail once we reach Pine Valley around noon, hop on 8 W to 15 N then 78 W and be at the show with several hours left to look at the stuff.
Directions to the meet location below. Feel free to use www.mapquest.com to help get yourself there also. As for the drive directions, I'll post those later this week as well as have handouts when we meet.
Directions to Meet Place (Please show up around 9AM, drive starts exactly at 9:30AM Saturday 9/20):
We will meet at the Gas Station on Hwy 76 right next to the Pala Casino at 11154 Highway 76 (East of the 15 about 5.5 miles). The Casino and gas station is on the Right. The Gas Station is right before the casino. It is hard to miss the Casino as it is huge and has a few big flashing signs. I’ve got directions below:
From LA/OC near Hwy 5: Take 5 South to Hwy 76 which you take for about 23 miles East total (you will cross the 15, then about 5.5 miles later reach our meeting place). As this freeway has many stop lights, it takes a little bit longer to travel as the 23 miles suggests.
From LA/OC near Hwy 15: Take 15 South to Hwy 76 which you take for about 5.5 miles East.
From San Diego: If near Hwy 8, take 8 to 15, take 15 North, then take Hwy 76 East for about 5.5 miles.
From San Diego/North County: Hwy 78 to 15 N to 76 E is a good route to the meet location.

I don't drive a Z but you mentioned you already have approx. 10 Bimmers joining so maybe you won't mind one more. As a reference I drove with the Spugen S2K's on their last drive up Palms to Pines and seem to still be on their good side.
You can check out a review from me and Team Spugen for the Palomar roads on my web page at www.lateralg.org. I haven't tried Sunrise Hwy. or Mesa Grande Rd. yet and would love to add them to my list.

Levaris, come on and join us! Nice writeups on your site about S6/S7 roads to Palomar. Definitely time for you to add Mesa Grande (some intense turns and fast sections) as well as Sunrise Highway (running along the mountain ridge). Two good sections of road you need to experience.
Weather in the mountains for Saturday is looking excellent. Nice and sunny. Will be a bit cloudy on the coast as usual, but once you get inland and into the mountains, clear sky!
Slvrz,
I PM you about getting together for the drive down to S.D. Anyone else from L.A. and O.C. counties is welcome to join in.

jdzumwalt, Glad you're coming. I haven't met you yet, but I've seen your posts on nasioc. Don't worry about falling behind, there's basically one road and everyone stops to let people catch up when the roads split. Just go at your own pace. See ya'll tomorrow!

Thanks all for a great safe drive! I think we started out with 30 cars or so, bunch of Subaru WRX, BMWs, some Zs, an S2K, a nice Corvette and some other misc. cars. 30 ended up being just a bit too many cars to manage, so lesson learned for me to organize a bit better up front, get some more team leaders organized a few days beforehand or something. Unsure what happened to most of the BMW crew after our first stop at Mother's Kitchen. We had some real great runs on the opposite side of Palomar and then Mesa Grande, then a bit more traffic through Julian and on some parts of Sunset Highway. We altered our plans a bit and ate at the Blue Jay Lodge in Laguna Mountain rather then fight more traffic down into Pine Valley. The route back ended up being excellent also, very little traffic on Mesa Grande and then Palomar. If you took pics, then please post. If you took Film, then shoot me a Private Message, see if perhaps I could get a copy on CD.
Thanks again for a great drive!
Brian.

It's going to be nice. See you all tomorrow!
