Default Got a fat ticket...need help

First off I want to start by saying that it was a simple mistake that I'm sure most of you have done. If you have any negative comments please don't post. Last week I was exiting the offramp to go home, it was around 1am and the light was green for me to turn right so I looked around and didn't see any cars so I decided to downshift and gas it through the turn to get a little sideways. Little did I know when I came around the corner there were two cops pulling someone over and one of the cops left and followed me. As always they were being cops and not nice at all and yelling at me. They cited me for RECKLESS DRIVING AND EXHIBITION OF SPEED. I know that they're both 2 points each, and on top of that I already have 3 or 4 points on my license and a speeding ticket that I got about 2 months ago. I just want to know if this has ever happened to anyone and what did they do to deal with it. I was told to get a lawyer because I know they will most likely take my license. So I just need help on what I should do. Any recommendations? and believe me I know this is dumb but I'm sure this hasn't only happened to me but many others. Thanks

see what vehicle code they gave you and see what the language they actually use in the vehicle code.

you can try to do a trial by declaration first. because that's just a free chance to get off. even if they decide you are guilty, you can still go plead in court. usually, cops don't like to write to counter your trial by declaration, well, they don't like to write period. you might be able to get off the ticket that way.

besides that, sorry dood, you have to get a lawyer... those are some serious violations, like you said, 2 points each.

I've got something similar to this a couple years back. I talk to an attorney and got it down to lesser charge of speeding through a turn.

and of course I am labeled as an *******, but I dont care. This is why I sold my ZR, too many kids these days ruining it for the rest of us who drive responsibily! My insurance hiked twice before I traded it in! Gl son and yes I said son, on your ticket endeavor. Better save up cause either the lawyer or the city will take your $ either way you are out at least 750 bean burritos at Taco Bell! And be sure to tell you insurance company you want to switch to SR-22 insurance!

damn that friggen sucks ... same thing happened to me that happened to OP ... luckily my relative, an FBI agent , was in the car with me ... would have gotten me for reckless driving/exhibition of speed/destuction of city property (hit a sign *sadface* ) got off scott free.

good luck with ticket OP ...

also i heard * and i know someone is going to be a jackass about this* from my friend with a TL that they have a guy on acurazine that will go into the court for you and can usually get all charges dropped for about 100 bucks or some brews .... something like that. go there and ask around.

No, that's not s simple mistake, because you got a ticket for it; and you could've seriously hurt someone because of your carelessness. Wait, you already have 4 points, right? And you still haven't learned? Don't even try to downplay your actions by saying, "it was a simple mistake, and most of us have done it." Kids..........

You should get your license suspended for doing something like that and the cops had every right to be pissed at you. Drifting through a turn on public roads let alone doing it w/o knowing what was around the bend was pretty stupid. You should be fortunate that losing your license is the only repercussion cause had you smacked into those cops you would probably be doing time in the slammer.

Do us all a favor, don't get a lawyer, pay up, get what's coming to you and keep your recklessness off of our public roads.

You must have thick skin starting a thread like this. I get my fair share of moving violations too but all in a timely manner. Once my wings are clipped it takes them 18 months to grow back.

There is no way out of it. I work for the Orange County Sheriffs Department at the communications center and all we do is run checks on your license and warrant status. Be lucky you didn't get your car impounded! If the cop that pulled you over wanted to check your L1 (driving record) and saw your points and other infractions...you would most definately be walking home if not having someone bail you out. You got caught doing a dumb thing and now you will have to pay. Sorry dude...that is how it goes.
