Socal SKI/Snowboard Resorts ??
anyone been up to the mountains yet this season? im thinking of taking the rest of the day off and driving up to big bear...hows the snow up there? will i need a 4x4 with chains and s**t or its clean by now?
The roads to big bear are USUALLY just fine... I've been up a couple times this season and have not seen any ice or snow on the roads for the most part. It may be a bit worse now that we had that intense rainfall.
It was pretty much dust over crust when I was there, but once it warmed up it was pearl.

Go there to check out the current conditions:
Hwy. 330 / 18: (Running Springs) OPEN- no chain requirements.
Hwy. 38: (Redlands) OPEN- no chain requirements.
Hwy. 18: (Lucerne Valley) OPEN- no chain requirements.

Bear Mountain and Summit are owned by the same people, so you can switch during the day and your lift ticket will be valid at either.
I personally like starting the day at Bear then switching to Summit in the early afternoon. Bear's got some nice runs, just takes some creative lift usage
