Default 93 Octane gas---Where can I find some?

I know there are some gas stations in the LA area that sell 92 or 93 octane gas at the pump. Does anyone know which ones? Or is there a website you can refer me to?

All I know is that unocal 76 has them. But can't remember where.

Unocal does not have 92 or 93 octane they have 100 octane racing gas that runs about $5 a gallon

Sharif,
I got this from Supraforums.com...there is a lot of great forced induction knowledge among supra owners if you can wade through all of the Fast and Furious crap. That community learned a lot before and after that movie came along and stirred things up for them!
You can mix a few gallons of 100 in with your 91 pee-water and boost your octane. I would check with the guys over on that forum for specifics.

You should be able to mix 100 octane with 91 to make 93, as long as it's *unleaded*. I don't have any idea about the proportions, but from what I've read it's not as straightforward as it seems. (There's some chemistry involved.)

Anyway, it most likely won't help at all if you've been running 91, because the sensors and ECU won't be able to tell the difference.

Thanks guys! Great work!

My ECU may not be able to tell the difference, but my Twin Turbos and the risk of detonation will definatley notice the difference!

My ECU is kinda dumb...I havent even told her I have a turbo yet. She still thinks she'll controlling those wimpy 280cc stock injectors, instead of my shiny new RC440's.

Can one of our resident "scientist" do the stoichiometery to determine the proper ratio of 100 octane to 91 octant in order to achieve around a 93-95 octane mixture?

Turn Z boost down and you'll be fine. A less aggressive fuel map in LA will save the car. As far as mixing goes, on a 18 gallon tank i think if 15 gallons of 91 = 3 gallons of 100 should do that trick. Not worth it. When you need your car to run crazy Insane fill her up with 100 octane.

this station no longer has the 100 octane. i stopped by there the other day, and they seem to have removed it. but thanks for the list, now i have some gas stations to visit.

frenzee posted above about toluene....which seems to be the additive of choice for a lot of people, especially those that are FI. Toluene can be found at paint stores (it is actually a paint thinner). It contains no lead and according to a thread I read on another site, does not harm the engine in any way. It is 114 octane.

The formula given for the mix (on the other site) is as follows and can be used to figure out the mix for race gas as well by substituting the octane rating for toluene (114) with the octane rating for race gas (100).

In the "gallons of gas" side of the equation I will use 91 as the octane rating since we are in California. If someone from another state is reading this, simply plug in the octane rating of the gas available to you.

Formula:

(gallons of gas X 91) + (gallons of Toluene X 114) / (gallons of gas + gallons of toluene) = final octane rating

Example (using toluene):

(12 X 91) + (2 X 114) = 1320

1320 / 14 ttl. gals. = 94.29 final octane

Example (using race gas):

(12 X 91) + (4 X 100) = 1492

1492 / 16 ttl. gals. = 93.25 final octane

Anyhow, you can manipulate the numbers for the additive you choose and come up with the ratio that you want based on the formula. The key is to make certain the mix remains "unleaded"

hmmm...2 gallons of paint thinner. Is paint thinner cheaper than 5.50/gallon? Are we sure this stuff is safe? Paint thinner is incredibly toxic and abrasive...but I guess the same can be said for gasoline.

Yeah, I think I will reserve octant manipulation for the race track or bragging dyno numbers.

Alliance gas station on the northwest corner of Sherman Way and Woodley (I think that is in Van Nuys) sells 101 octane for $3.999 a gallon. I have a tank of it in my Z right now. I stopped on the way home from the Latigo Canyon run.

If you do a search on toluene, you will find that it is used in many different applications including as an octane booster. Oil companies use it to boost the octane in the gas you buy now.......so, yes it is safe for cars.

There used to be a Unocal w/ 100 octane in the valley on ventura blvd somewhere in encino. Not sure if they still have it.

Isn't 101 leaded? Everything I've seen over 100 is leaded, so I got the impression that lead made it over 100. I'm just guessing, but you can't be too careful with these things.
