350Z Challenge June 4 at Willow Springs Raceway
Here's Z CHAN and I in Turn 4b:
Was having a great time until I overheated and started blowing smoke. Heading over to Specialty Z on Wed for the PCV valve re-reroute and big radiator kit.
Jason, see you Monday for the Pathy service
Can't wait to get out there again when the car is a bit more track ready. My best time was a 1:52 and I KNOW Z CHAN has more speed in her!

followed the link to your website. nice write-up and cool pics. i just started driving my car on a racetrack less than a year ago, after a lifetime of owning, driving, and drooling over all manner of sports cars. i am already a "Z on the track" addict. wish i started 20 years ago.
this was a great event and i was glad to be part of it. i believe the California "350Z Challenge Series" has a great future. it certainly got started with a bang!!!

Hey Guys,
It was great seeing so many Zs out there
Unfortunately, I was much too busy to say 'Hi' to everyone. I did have a chance to chat with a few. That was perhaps the most exhausting track event I have been through in a long time. No sleep at all the night before!
... was functioning on pure adrenaline!
My car was not dialed in and pushed heavily all day. The weather was much too hot for me to want to get underneath her to make some changes.
I'll catch you all again at the next one.

Had a great time at Willow...was really somewhat surprised at how well my "stock" 350Z handled. I thought it would have been more unstable in the turns but it seemed to stick and maintain it's balance very well. The best help for the car will be racing tires as the stock Bridgestones went away very quickly, especially the left front. Have not seen the final results from my last session, but had six laps in the 1:46s, with a 1:46.113 the best. One suggestion I have is that the Zs try to arrive and pit together so we can better get acquainted and talk about car setups and such. zxsaint was there and I would have enjoyed meeting you but did not find out until your post-others too. Can't wait the next event. Great fun.
It was a good time. I couldn't take the heat well and only did 3.5 runs. I'll try to post some pics once I'm back home (out of the country right now). I was happy with my time progression from run to run. Looking forward to seeing the times get posted.
Results are up! I guess I did ok for my first time (and on 19's).
Can't wait to go again! I'll probably use my oem track wheels next time with some race tires. Any recommendations? Would RA1's @ 245/40/18 all around be ok?

Hey everyone. I had a fun time too. Thanks again to Richard for organizing the 350Z turnout.
Bullet (Jim), got your PM and saw the pics (thanks). I even recognize me in riding shotgun while you are driving your red 350Z. Appreciate your taking the time to instruct.
I was impressed by your other student, Kawika (pronouced Ka-vi-ka), who was following in the G35 (in the picture with you driving your red Z). SpeedVentures show his best time as 1:49.092. I think this was his first time on track (although he said he used to do some 'drag racing').
By the way, SpeedVentures web site shows your best time a little better then what you reported. It shows 146.106.
I might be coming out to the canyon run on 06-26. Should know for sure by the end of next week.

Is anyone else going to the next SpeedVentures event on the road course at California Speedway on June 25 ?
I have not designated this a "California 350Z Challenge Series" event because it is so expensive ($275, I think -- renting this track is very costly). But if any other Zs are going, let's get together early in the pits and park together.
My broken hand should be much better by then, and I expect to be able to drive faster than I did at Big Willow June 4.

Ya Jeff, had a great time out there. It sure is fun when you start nailing those turns just right, like in 9 when you come out at over a 100 and your exit point is right next the pit road entrance as you let the car unwind-doesn't get better than that. Found another picture of you and me.
Jason, great times, nice consistency.
Also super times for Kawika, his first time on a race track. As I told you when were riding together, you seem like a natural out there.

LOL ... that was expected wouldn't you say?
With the exception of myself all the G35ers were newbies. I thought they did a commendable job for their very first time out. All of them are now hooked and track junky wannabes.
There are some fast Zs out there! I congratulate yall.
I was stuck with instuctor duty as well as giving rides all day long. I also let someone else drive my car towards the end of the day. She pushed horrendously all day anyhow ... and that's just no fun for T8 and T9. I've really had it with the non-Brembo brakes too. Back to the drawing board for the suspension settings. Cyall at the next one!
Lots o fun!

Cal speedway sounds fun but it's too costly. Might still do it however, just not sure enough to sign up yet. Definitely in for Aug 7-8th, even tho heat will probably be even more of an issue.
Nice shot Jason! I heard there were some nice money shots of me too, but I didn't make it to the gift shop before they close
Zxsaint,
Well, in that case, job well done to you too for being a newb
Great time!

It was a fun time guys. I wish I could have lasted longer but had to stop after 3.5 sessions. The heat was too much for me and I was getting a nasty headache. I think I could have dropped another second or two with more time and guts
Had some trouble with the 3-4 shift going into turn 6 too. I wonder if my tranny is bound for the scrap heap. Not a fun feeling pulling down for 4 and getting 2! Messed up about 6 laps.
I guess I get bragging rights for breaking 1:46 though
So much fun! Thanks Richard for setting up the event for us. Thanks for the turn 3-5 advice Jason!
See ya'll on the track.
