Tara came up with an idea, no thanks to yesterday's fiasco with getting lost and being somewhat disorganized.
She thinks we should set up a rally with teams and tasks to be completed. Here's the idea (think Amazing Race):
Depending on the number of members signing up, we split them up into teams. Each team will get a list of tasks, phone numbers, and must bring radios. The list will include a description of the tasks and locations that the teams must go to. There will be a time limit with a time and destination in mind. The destinations will probably have sign in sheets or somebody standing by with a new set of instructions or whatever.
Tara and I will probably drive and map out different routes beforehand. We'll make a list of tasks and routes with a final destination and time. When we all agree on a date for this big event, we'll have people meet in the morning somewhere, separate everyone into teams, give each team a sheet with tasks/routes, and then the teams are allowed to start at the same time.
Each team will have a different route, so none of you will be getting in each other's way or know who's ahead. We'll set a time that every team has to get back by with a finish line, probably a restaurant where Tara and I will be waiting. Whoever comes in first with the most tasks completed is the winner.
I'm still trying to figure out what the prize will be. Maybe if we can get enough interest, entrants can paypal me so I can buy the prize. I will not be in the rally race. I will be at the finish line.
After the race, we can choose to take a leisurely drive for some scenic pics before coming back to my place for some grilling action.
So here's the deal: Let's pick a date well in advance and make sure you get time off. It will more than likely be on a weekend, so think of a good date. I would prefer sometime in the summer when the weather is nicer. If all of you agree, then we can think of an entry fee to make this more serious and I'll buy the prize with that money.
Plan on this being an all day event. I might even have to contact businesses to see if they want to sponsor it and give prizes. Let's keep the discussions on this topic in this thread, post whoring can go elsewhere.
I don't mind if you guys bring friends or invite other cool car owners/enthusiasts to this event. However, I don't want every Joe Blow to be in it either.
Discuss.

I like it Dave. We maybe could even do a mixed version with a Bullrun type theme as well. To build on your idea we could set up check points around the cities (even down as far as Red Wing) and the drivers will be timed as they make it to the checkpoints. From each checkpoint they would get a new direction and ultimately have to make it back to the final check point first with the completed tasks. For every task they miss they will be deducted point or time. To add a bit more fun we could have a final driving challenge. Nothing illegal, dangerous or damaging to the cars of course. Obviously we would not be able to regulate use of GPS so it would not be completely like Bullrun. Let's do it. We might need a few people just to man the checkpoints. I'd volunteer to do one of the checkpoint. I think we should have have the final checkpoint be Hooters. Wouldn't that be fun to finish off the rally with the lady's waiting. That might acutally be like the real Bullrun then. Good stuff!

Oh, sorry Ben. I guess I'm the exact opposite. I'm a 22 year old stuck in an older body.
I'm still thinking about this and keeping mental notes of places to add to the list. The more people we can get involved and commit, the more fun it will be.
Other car enthusiasts are invited, as usual.
