Default 3rd gear/Tranny Warranty Question.. HELP!

My car grinds in 3rd gear, ONLY when its UNDER normal operating temps ( ie. when the car is cold). If i dont shift like an 80 year old grandma, it will grind. It only does it once, then after that initial grind, its fine.

After reading the owners manual and warranty papers from the factory, i understand the powertrain has a warranty of 6yr/60k miles. Is this correct? and if so, should i just take this to the dealer and make them fix it?

Any help is appreciated, and would be a great help. Thanks!

They should fix it but you need to take them for a ride so YOU can duplicate it, don't leave it till you can make it grind, good luck.

hey Z33Benny- within the past month or so I have the same thing happening. I mean I know 03's have tranny problems, but it's the exact same symptoms as you. One or two grinds when cold, then once to temp, nothin. I've taken it twice to the dealer already and they just said 'could not duplicate.' I think next time I'm gonna take the tech with me. Let me know what you end up doin and if they replace your tranny. Good luck

the problem with this, is that once the car is warmed up.. it wont do it. It only does it after the car sits for like 6-8 hours. Not sure how to figure out how to let them do that, unless they let the car sit there all day long.

ps. my car is at 46k miles.

drop your car off for the day if you can, and then go back in the morning and take em for a spin and show them

have you changed the tranny fluid?

yeah, that's exactly it! only after it has sat for a few hours. oh btw, I've got an 03 w/ 35k on the clock. I usually get there pretty early to beat everyone else so I'm gonna let it sit for a couple hours and then as soon as the tech is available just take em for a ride as soon as I start her up. The only question is do you think they'll replace the trans. if it only grinds once or twice??
