Default Need Help w/ throttle

Hey guys, please give me something to tell the stealership to go out and check. I have a 5 speed AT that is acting weird.

I know we have drive by wire & no cable, So what could be causing my sparratic & interupting & hessitation of acceleration ??? We have alot of different sensors that could effect the throttle body....so what else can be doing this ?

The stealership says that I'm not producing a check engine light....so there is no code to be checked.....so they don't know where to look.

Besides the spontaneous hessitation of acceleration in every gear at usually above the 3000 rpm mark, the car runs and sounds fine. It also will and has stalled at a stop light many times.

Anyone with something to help out, please post.

Thanks

1. Throttle body sensor? 2. EGR valve? 3. Throttle body clean up? 4. MAS ("MAF sensor", as they call it in these threads) clean up? I don't think the car
having an AT has anything to do with it. Good luck!

one of the above sounds like a great place to start off...
another couple of things i would check...

fuel filter (might prove more difficult than it sounds...Never done it on our cars personally... but if clogged can cause hesitation by starving it)
fuel quality... walmart gas FTL...
plugs
O2 sensor
or some random a$$ vacuum tube somewhere sucking air...

maybe some of the more tech savvy guys can come in here and elaborate on the lists mentioned... and give their ideas and advise...

regarding your stalling at stops...possibly an idle control problem?
does your car idle ok?
also, do you have any mods? how many miles do you have? how old are your plugs?

I'm already signed up for the meet. I would like to see if he can find anything out with the Cipher tool. How much does he charge ? I hope I can drive my Z out that far.

j.arnaldo --- thanks for the leads. I'm having Nissan look at the MAF and fuel lines & filter.

CSF --- Plugs are most likely original, I have 38,000 miles, & simple Mods ( Nismo CAI, Nismo exhaust, & 5/16th Plenum spacer. ) The Idle acts up whenever the throttle is skipping.

Boommart --- They tell me that the fuel injectors have more than enough pressure & should hardly never get clogged. We'll see....if they can find out whats doing this.

Thanks to all for giving me something to go on. I'm expecting Nissan to call me up this afternoon with a diagnosis.

If you think of anything else then let me know. Thanks Peeps

let me know what Nissan finds out. I'm having similar issues w/ my car. Same mileage, but I have an 06' m/t. Acceleration seems sluggish, and at high speeds, stomping on the throttle causes a choking symptom.

I'd suspect the TB before anything else. BTW, if the dealership couldn't find any codes (which will show on your dash anyway using lights), cipher wouldn't magically find a code.

Keep us updated.

noticed that after i posted... great hopefully he finds something... and i don't think he'll charge but i'm not sure... Moog said he's bringing it so ppl can check it out.. so i'd think he's bringing it to toy around with it... and it'd be interesting to run it on a car that actually HAS a problem...

See you there...

Well got the Z back from Nissan late Yesterday. Seems that they replaced the MAF sensor and that did the trick. They couldn't tell me or explain why it was doing that, but they seem to be very sure that it shouldn't act up again.

I drove the Z out of the dealership and noticed an immediate difference in acceleration & even exhuast sound. To me it sounded much purer & tighter, not as loose. I did start to notice just a little bit of an gurguling sound in the exhaust. As if the mixture was a little rich. Also my tail pipes had much more residue on the bottom of the pipes.

So in a short I guess it was only the sensor causing this hesitation of fuel mixture and cutting it off sparratically.

So "nismospec" if your having these same symtoms I would have the MAF sensor checked out. Mine got worst thru-out the work week. Then I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Good luck !

foot note* Btw I lucked out in timing, because I just decided to go ahead and pay for this extra extended full coverage warranty with no deductibles. Woot !

The dealearship's invoice was $ 414.00 for the part & labor. Not a ton of money but still no cash out of my pocket. So the warranty will be a nice peice of mind.

thanks for the info, i'll check it out. And +1 for the extended warranty. I got a heck of a deal on mine since the dealer quoted me on a Sentra instead of a Z. I love stupid people

That awesome to hear. BTW, reset your ECU (just in case the dealership didn't). That way, it'll relearn with the properly functioning MAF sensor and get your maps straight.

I used to work for a stealership and we would see this on occasion.....to me it sounds like either the maf sensor or the tps (throttle position sensor) we had a few tps's go out and that would cause stalling sluggish starts and failure to reach full throttle on some occasions. Alot of the time its when someone is installing a spacer and disconnects or reconects the tps while that battery is pluged in. Thats my two cents.......good luck

I'm subscribing becuase im having the same issue. If I stomp on the gas it seems like it bogs out and hestitates over 3,000 rpm. It is spuratic though, sometime power kicks in then out at high rpms. Is there a MAF cleaner I could try? I would hate to have to buy a new sensor

might as well try it...isn't a maf sensor like $200?

Thanks Chris,

What would this consist of ? I have heard of people doing or trying this.

Do you disconnect the battery terminals or something like that? I might need a talk thru .

Also jmccartney,

I would go ahead and clean it.....but be gentle. maybe an air hose with some kind of degresser. Not too sure. But it sounds like you have a parts connection.

Good luck & keep everyone else up to date since it sounds like there might a few others with this same problem.

http://www.technosquareinc.com/350reset.htm

Disconnecting the battery doesn't do anything.
