Texas "Fun" Roads
I originally posted this same question in a California forum by mistake so now I am reposting it here hoping to receive more responses.
Texas "Fun" Roads
I live in the Dallas/Plano area and have an irresistable urge to drive on a fun-to-drive wavey road with varying elevation, and none to extremely minimal police surveilance. Maybe also a road that will give way for a high speed run.
Now I know I live in Texas and those of you who have either visited or live here know that almost the entire state is flat as an ironing board. If there is any of you who know of a good road less than 50 miles away from Plano or Dallas PLEASE let me know. Post PM, or email whatever is better for you.
Having a 350Z in Texas seems like torture with only traffic - filled and policed roads, and straightly flat highways.
Thanks for all your help and advice - I really appreciate it.

There's some stuff up in Pilot Point, Tioga, Sanger... all are a little north from Plano, kinda up towards Hwy 380.
I have not been up that way since I graduated college years ago, so I can't remember all the roads.... but we used to ride motorcycles out there. We would leave from Denton on 380 and head east a littlle, then wind our way back in the country till we hit McKinney or Sherman.
Maybe some of the locals will have more info.

like I said... been a while since I was up there... but I don't recall ever seeing police. That is WAYYY out in the country up there. You gotta worry more about a stray cow or goat walking across the road....
If you really want to see what the Z can do, go as fast as you want, not worry about police and do it all weekend long, come out to a Driver's Edge driving event. The next event is October 18th and 19th at Texas World Speedway in College Station. Go here for info: www.thedriversedge.net

You guys crack me up...
The state of Texas is flat as an ironing board? HA !
You should live here on the lovely Gulf Coast, just South of Houston, where hurricane's blow in with reckless abandon, the mosquito's are the size of small birds and the humidity never dips below 75% ! You wanna talk about FLAT? WE have topography about as interesting as a pool table top !
Every time I go to Ft. Worth to visit my Daughter, I'm amazed at how "interesting" the terrain is. For us, a dip, means that you're off-road and driving through somebodies ditch !
I agree with Audito350Z...for the most fun, attend a driving event at Texas World Speedway, or the just previously run, Hallett Event just outside of Tulsa. They really show you what your car and YOU are capable of doing. You will also find out just how quick things can get out of control. I know that I'm a better driver for doing them, and have slowed down my street driving because of them....it can be a very eye-opening experience ! (trust me on this one).
Pete,
are you gonna be able to make the next Z Club of Houston Meeting this Thursday? If so, be sure to look me up !

yea i have a passion for nice roads. i am at utd and i found a very small round of twisties near the area (average 50-60 mph turns). it is only 2-3 turns but it is good enough to get the heartrate up (doctor recommends this daily
) maybe we should meet up sometime. i can show the twisties to u but u might be disappointed.
i also found some high speed twisties (90+) but im not very familiar with the area. it is along greenville.

If you all are ever in Austin, let us know and we will set up a drive along the "fun" Texas roads. We actually do have some interesting terrain out this way. Might want to try it some time.

artic, i'm up in austin all the time. the only twisty that i drove was 2222. i asked about other roads in austin in another thread. can u give more suggestions where else to go in austin?
Also lotsa good roads North of Allen.
For example, take Bethany East off of 75 out through Allen into Lucas. Turn Left onto Country Club Road. Not many cops, but lotsa side roads, so watch Ma and Pa pulling out onto the road at 10 MPH
But, there's great, tight curves with decent visibility and some good.
Once you're back there, explore around. There's some great roads with tight curves and decent elevation changes - for North Texas anyway, boy do I miss the Hill Country. TX 546 takes you over Lavon, and if you follow it (take a left at the fork in the road by the Quickie Mart), you will end up on Eldorado Parkway in McKinney. There's some really fun stretches from that fork until you pass by the McKinney airport.... a great sweeping turn with nice fresh pavement.
Have fun!

Munky, I checked out your suggested roads, and wow! I didn't know I could find something so interesting so close to home.
:Thank you so much for your post, the roads were exactly as you described and a wonderful drive altogether. Well worth the trip!
:I have not checked out the other roads you suggested (only Country Club Road) but am anticipating to do so a.s.a.p.
:Once again thank you for your post, and if you have anymore please feel free to post them, IM them, or email them to me.
nigevellie- Sorry, I missed your post.
There are untold number of roads out west of Austin. Some of the most popular start with Lime Creek Road and 1431. I don't know the name of all the roads out towards Marble Falls and Kingsland.
Chris S and Jeff (jwfisher) are much more familiar with these roads. They have been planning the routes for the upcoming S2KDays National Meet. Jeff is out driving one of the routes right now.
Next time you are coming out let us know and we will try to set up a drive.

Lime Creek is out by my Dad's house and it is crazy. There are quite a few on-camber hairpin turns that will throw you out of your seat if you dont have your seatbelt on. The only problem isnt very much visibility due to the brush. Try it out. 1431 is fun with its elevation changes but you have to worry about Jonestown police. They're always looking for speeders.
