Default Help! Freon leak

I have a '05 Z equipped with popcharger (had it for long time now w/no prob). During the weekend I took the filter out to have it clean. When I put it back, turns out I didn't position it properly causing back part of the filter to rub on the freon line. Yes, their was a leak but fortunately I was able to catch this soon & reposition it correctly. You can't see the hole w/your naked eyes but their is a very tiny tiny hole. Best case scenario I'm thinking/hoping this can be welded. Worst case, I need to replace the whole line which I'm assuming it's labor intensive. Anyone recommend a trust worthy shop that can fix this?

Don't know about the line or a shop, but did you oil your filter after you cleaned it?

No, I swapped out the filter to AEM dry flow air filter.

You have to replace it and I would just take it to the dealer if it was me. If you don’t want to go that route you should take it to a shop that has an A/C machine. More like this one http://www.denlorstools.com/shop/ima...AC_Machine.jpg because those machines will not recovery contaminated R-134a. Also, since there is a leak there is moisture in the system and that machine will vacuum it all out.

*sigh* I think I'm just going to have to start calling dealerships tomorrow. I didn't really get a chance to look around for a reputable shop but driving around in Dallas w/o A/C can be a real b!tch. Thanks jaoku!

I just googled JB weld & it actually seems promising. Sucks I still have to get my A/C refilled though.

Check online at courtesy parts to see how much the hard line is.. Try to look at the route to see bad it is. I wouldn't think it'd be that bad to replace. JB weld would work too.

Couldn't find it.
I followed the line and it leads to where our brake fluid container is and continues on towards center of the car. If I replace the entire line I fear this will be very labor intensive.

When you put in the pop charger you should bend the ac line to move it and cover it with insulation foam wrap

I had the same problem. My K&N intake box rubbed at the same area. I ordered the parts from the dealership. Can't remeber the price but I think it was around $70. The line was fairly easy to installed. Then I bought the recharge kit and added the freon myself. Total cost was around $150.

Sucks. Kind of glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

Oh hey! Yeah I remember you asked me what year my car was right? Nice to meet you. Sorry if I didn't seem talkative or friendly. I was just a little PO at the time when I found out about my car.

You can either put a bandage on it and hope it doesn't fail later on or get it done right. I would suggest you replace the line yourself and take it to a shop with an A/C machine. Again, there is a leak so there is moisture and maybe dirt in the system (A/C is a sealed system), if not taken care of it may ruin the compressor later on.

Don't worry I understand - After seeing your car I went to check mine to make sure my pop charger hasnt caused the same thing

IDK how that would have happened... its odd

I was actually considering what others have said above and just seal it up with JB weld but I think you actually have a good point. I'd rather pay extra and get it right the first time. I would totally do it myself but I couldn't tell you single thing about car A/C if my life depended on it. So I guess it's off to the dealership...

Going over my past created threads. If anyone cares about the outcome I actually took my car to a dealership that my friend happened to be working and got free refill on freon after I used the JB weld to cover up the leak. Have not had a issue since.
