Agreed, I forgot to include the new HP standards to the old standards, and why the 306hp rating of the HR is not exactly 6hp more than a REVUP.

With that being said, I still wish they would bump the displacement above 3.7 so that more power could be gained. I like the thought of a 400Z.

But that's wishful thinking.

I feel bad for all the VQ35HR buyers. Within a year Nissan will replace the motor much like how they replaced the Revup.

Based on this I would definitely expect more than 320 - 330 crank from a 3.7L in the future.

We can only hope!
Well how much do u think a VQHR would dyno with similar mods? Wayy more than 243whp.

Kind of Harkon's back to the '70s with a different motor for every year.

the 2006 is a "collectors item" in my mind because it was the only year of full-on Revv-ups... The HR could be in the same boat.. If 3.7 comes out in 2008, that would be 4 different engines over 4 model years...Interesting times indeed.

The 243whp was a modded REVUP on Sharif's dyno at Forged Performance.
He dynoed a stock HR and got 245hp.....

Since there are not really any mods for the HR engine he went towards the exhaust and proceeded to fit a Greddy EVOTT exhaust and modified TPs and re-dyno the HR to get 263rwhp (Without rechecking the thread I'm pretty sure it was a gain of 18rwhp.... Sharif said he was surprised). These gains were seen without any tuning, just bolt on.

Forgive me if I've misquoted any info from the Forged Performance thread. I believe the thread is listed under the engine modification section.

Exactly. A fairly small percentage of all car owners actually want extensive mods to their engines to begin with. Now factor in how much fewer rev-up and HR engines there are compared to the original DE, and the future seems a little bleak for them. With the VHR coming out, the HR guys are already driving old engines, and with maybe just one year in production, I don't foresee a lot of options or them as compared to the DE or VHR engines. At least not as soon as what came out for the DE, or what will probably be coming out for the VHR once the GT-R is here.

All this info is definitely enticing. I like the idea of building a car similar in power to the GTR, but RWD and much cheaper ot buy/insure/maintain...400z would be awesome too, but I somehow doubt we're going to see that.

I dont think its one year. I heard that the G37 is gonna hit dealer showrooms this August. That means that the VQ35HR was out only for what... 6 months? How many of u guys think Nissan is doing the whole 240Z thing again i.e. have the 240 out then replace it with the 260 then the 280 and then the 300?

The G37 is said to make 330 where as the GTR is going to be 450+. I think the only two differences between the motors is that the GTR is TT with low CR pistons and the NA 3.7 has high CR pistons.

Revups were available in 05 actually. The ultimate collectors item would be a 05 35th anniv. 6spd.

Road and Track's Article that comes out in next months magazine Confirms 330hp, 270tq with a Showroom date of August. Also Standard ar 14" rotors.

Now if we can get the 370Z with the same motor making 345hp 290tq.. mmmmmm

I know I read that article. I think Nissan should forget about being conservative and instead of just catching up to the competition, be ahead of it by releasing the 3.8 from the 380RS. That motor is leagues ahead of the DE, Revup, HR and 3.7. 395hp NA FTW!
