No, you know how a lot of ricers like to wire in those cheesy autometer narrow band gauges into their oem O2 sensors so they can get pretend A/F?

Well, since we 04.5+ Z's have oem wideband sensors, would wiring in one of those autometer gauges to our sensors actually allow it to function as a wideband?

If so, this could save us 04.5+ guys a whole bunch of money because, those autometer gauges are pretty cheap!

I'm going to say no, here's why. Narrowband uses a scale of 0-1v, wideband uses a 0-5v signal which the ECU directly interprets. All an Autometer AFR gauge is a volt meter that is preset to 0-1v (narrow). You would have to have an auxiliary wideband controller that can narrow the wideband signal and scale it down to a narrowband signal. A Innovate LC1 can do this, and works 100% with an Autometer gauge instead of the typical (and more expensive) XD-1 (or the 16 that's out now).

So a budget wideband gauge setup would be the Innovate LC1 + narrow band gauge of your choice. It would work well and you could always attach your laptop to the LC1 to do datalogging.

The only way I can think to do this is if you have a screen hooked up to an in-car PC and run the cipher to that PC and display it off the screen.

Nice Review Alberto

Looks like a very nice tool. Might have to see about getting this at a later date.

Good review Alberto... I know there was a reason i bought an 05!!! Widebands YAH YAH

Glad you are always contributing to the community Al!

This is going to be an early b-day present for myself!

I get to check it off the list of... clutch, wideband & datalogger, radiator, lots of heat wrap, TN 1.5 & Motor.

I have seen Cipher in action and have met the team behind it. They are very cool and Cipher is a very trick tool. Highly recomended for people who like to monitor everything and the kitchen sink!

Does the program let you select what fuel map your car is using? Would be nice to switch it to granny mode when in traffic then bump it into perf mode when you need it.

does the program let you read and clear error codes for like the airbag light? how discriptive is the code reading part, Example just the code number or does it give a discription of the code? What other future function will be availible and are those updates free to download for current owns of the software?

I have a '04 touring with NA mods like air intake, nismo exhuast, crawford cats. Would i see much of an improvement in HP/tq. with this programe?

I've also been running cipher and love it. Another thing I should mention is Uprev will email you updates for the program which I think is great, so far I've got .2 version.

Looks cool when you pull to the track and have your latop open with the digital gauges showing, ppl are like WTF??

No. You can change timing easily though. But that is limited to +/- 2 degrees.

Bro. Can you email me the .2 version as the last one that I got was the 1.01 version.

They still have not enabled the generic BCM functions for the 2003 Z's and I was told MANY months ago that they were about to fix that.

I actually met with the guys from UpRev and bought my Cipher unit in person. I just wish they would have told me that a few features won't work on my model year which is 2003. I may have been a little slower in purchasing until they got this fixed. They assured me that they were working hard on it when I called them after discovering the shortfall. That was a long time ago, so I have pretty much ruled that out.

The BCM features allow for trouble shooting switches as the source of a problem by allowing you to activate certain BCM controlled items via the laptop.

Regardless, the Cipher is a great tool for monitoring and datalogging on the 2003 Z's.

I remember reading a while ago about similar software (probably this one) where they at the time just had monitering software, but in the future planned to have a program to flash your ECU, and change ALOT of the settings on the fly, INCLUDING your fuel map.

Does this company have something to this effect planned for in the future? B/C that is what I really want.

It's my understanding that adjusting the timing (+/-2 degrees) with Nissan CONSULT only results in a timing change from idle to ~3000rpms. After that, there's no change. The 3.5VQ Altima/Maxima guys were having dealerships do this years ago and the dyno results were nill. According to the techs, there is no change in timing control at WOT.

What do the Cipher guys have to say about this?

As far as I know it changes timing across the board-this is what Ive readon their website and whatthe AAm guys have said. I never adjusted my timing in my FI Z, I didnt want to mess with my tune. Maybe an NA owner with the Cipher can chime in for another opinion?

Believe me when I say that the timing is across the powerband at WOT. If you were to set the timing @ -2 and go for a ride with a couple of WOT throttles and then advance timing 4 degrees to +2, you would notice a HUGE difference in the car.

The timing is indeed continued well passed 3000 RPMS

How do you know? Dynos? 1/4 mile? Just curious.

I would still recommend holding onto the Innovate WB since you already own one. It's a wonderful tool to have on hand even if you're not using it much.
The factory sensors may also have some variation from car to car, so I would recommend using the Innovate WB to fine tune the AFR look up table in Cipher when you start using it.
It also has the ability to do a free air calibration, so you know it can give an accurate reading even as the sensor begins to get old and warn. You can use the output from the calibrated Innovate unit to tune the AFR conversion table in Cipher as the factory sensors become old and worn over the years.
Just my $.02

I'm happy to hear people are enjoying the system.

-Jared.
