Cheapest tuning method?
I have basic bolt ons, I am about to throw a few more on and they I was going to get a flash or a piggy back. The problem is I know very very little about this stuff. I know the flash is about 600+ mailing and the utec goes for around 900 + 400-600 for a tune. I really cannot justify that much for just my NA mod's so is there any cheaper Piggybacks? I heard about unichip but cannot find a price on them. I will be staying NA for a while so I don't have to worry about compatibility with a turbo set up. I do not like the Idea of a mail in flash either b/c it will take a few tries and dyno $$$ but if there is no piggy back on a similar price range I guess it will be my only option?

My Unichip was 750 plus 150 to tune and I am N/A. At the time with intake and exhaust I had 25whp increase. I have been able to increase the whp by 60 with other mods. Nice thing is that the Unichip is FI friendly. Hope this helps.

Utec FTW, isn't cheap, but is very effective. I can't say i trust mail in tunes, so unless you live near TS, its better off you go unichip Q or Utec
In a few months, accessport should be released and everyone can self tune for 600 bucks

How do the apexi SAFCII and accessport work? How would I "self tune" I know nothing about timing/fuel maps/ or A/F ratios.
Also is it true that with piggyback systems the stock ecu's learning ability eventually overrideds the tune and you have to get re-tuned?

The AP is an end user reflash system, however 600 isn't quite right.
For Subarus it's 645 for the AP, then if you want to tune it, it's another 195 for the software. So more like $840. That's also for the AP that's currently on the market for Subarus. I don't belive that Nissan will be supported until the new AP comes out in the fall and there is not set price for the new one yet.
Just my $.02...

645+195 is still the cheapest I have seen besides a flash. Uni-chip is close if its 750+150 but is that the normal price? I though uni-chips were more expensive to have tuned?
On the AP can a novice tune the car? I know nothing about fuel maps and timings, I would hate to do more dmg than actually taking advantage of my mods.

Even if the price for this AP device is the cheapest, do you really think you can self-tune your car? I don't think "cheapest" and "tuning" should ever be put in the same sentence. I'd find a local Unichip dealer and go from there.

Ive played w/ AP on a evo (or equivelent hardware) and it was pretty easy. i know NOTHING of tuning other then the A/F and some timing and it wasn't bad. My cousin and I were able to play around with it and it definately felt faster. Sorry you're right its 650 for subies and the software. We got the software for free from somewhere.. forget where

>>> you can self-tune your car?
No! How much does the average uni-chip tune cost? and is it true the ecu's learning ability will eventually override the tune? and you will have to get it re-tuned?
I just want to keep it cheap b/c I am staying NA, and don't want to spend a ton of money when I just have simple bolt ons.
