Default Apexi S-AFCII

I want one of these to control my A/F. It has two modes that are stored in memory and one is made specificly for the 2003 350Z (lloking of a picture of it in my NPort TNR Mag)

Who has the fastest shipping on this? I would like to get it here by Track Night Wednesday in California (will pay extra)
and more importantly how involved in the install?

Anyone done one of these yet? Do you have to tear apart your dash (again ) ?

Thanks

Edit add, it has a KR Warning light for the track.

Our cars have Knock Retard Sensors right?

I got mine for $320 shipped from CA and installed it last week. So far it looks like it will be a helpful tuning tool. The Max's are running too rich on the top end so we have a bit of hp to free up by leaning our trim out. I wonder if the Z suffers the same affliction.

Can you elaborate on the install? My poor dash has been apart several times.

What about the KR issue when running N20?

Anyone?

I dont think KR is an issue at all so long as you're running a high enough octane. If thats not what you're asking please be more specific.

There isn't much to elaborate on for the AFC. I just soldered the power, grounds, tach, MAF, TPS, O2 and knock wires to the ECU wire harness on the correct pinouts.

91 Octane is as high as it goes here.

What I am saying is that when you use Nitrous your timing, Air and fuel all change.

Running too rich ot too lean can cause KR.

KR ***** your power down at WOT when running the 1/4 it can be very costly.

Ever seen a Dyno of a car in KR Mode? iTS REAL JAGGED AND THE POWER JUST STOPS AND LEVEL OFF AT THAT POINT.

I'm tired I just got home from work forbive the caps.

Does are car have KR senesors that tells the ECU when it senses KR so the AFG can pick up on that?

Lastly you had to have the wires from the controller go to the ECU correct?

How much dash did you have to take apart?

I'm just trying to decide if it is worth it that's all.

hey SR20DEN did you get your S-AFC II from ebay and is it the japanese version. APEX has not released the American version of the S-AFC II in the states yet. It will be coming out somewhere around June. From what I know taking apart the dash all depends on where you want to mount the S-AFC II. All this info coming from friends who work at APEX-i. Enjoy

It used to be that the Nissan ECU would only retard a max of 4 to 5 degrees if it detected knock. If you're using nitrous this would be of help under the right circumstances. And running too rich won't cause knock because that would actualy inhibit pre ignition and delay the chemical reaction more as well as keep the charge cooler.

Many believe that the Knock detect on the AFC-II doesn't work well or at all on a OBD2 vehicle. I have mine hooked up and it appears to work and see the sensor but to what extent I do not know. I would have to put 87 octane in my car and try to make it knowck to know for sure.

Yes my AFC is wired directly to the ECU harness. Each wire is soldered to it's correct pinout about 4 to 6 inches from the ECU. It is extremely important that the black and brown ground wires of the AFC be soldered 1cm apart from each other on the SAME ecu ground. Otherwise the AFC will have signaling issues and not maintain consistancy.

I do have the Japanese version but the only thing Japanese is the paper manual that it came with. The unit itself and all of it's settings are in English. Most of the instructions can be found in the SAFC (1) English manual. But you wil need a copy of the ECU diagram from the FSM to show you the correct pinouts. Here is the install doc for the 2002 Maxima.

I didn't have to take my dash apart because my ECU is in the middle of the car on the floor under the dash. I can access mine simply by removing a small cover. I did remove more than that to gain better access to the cables though. The Maxima install so far appears to be very much worth the effort.

Default Thanks for all the info

They make a version just for the 350Z, I saw the ad in a mag with it sitting on the flat area above the steering wheel with a blue background. I just checked the USA site and didn't see it, oh well.

I think I will wait and see what else comes out then based on this info.

Thanks!

I thought our cars were OBDIII?

Rereading that I can't believe how tired I was. If ever a post was in need of editing for typos.

Depends on where and who you have tune it. A lot of places will charge you $125 for an hour of dyno-tuning...
