A/F tuning ?
I know this doesnt really belong here but you guys seem to be the most knowledgeable. I have a 2007 maxima. Ive down fujita cai, custom y pipe back.As far as engine mods I plan on doing the phenolic spacers,y pipe, under drive pulley and maybe kinetix(doubt it for the price per benefit since Im not going FI). I dont want to do cams, heads or any major intenal work. Just looking for a little more umph.I talked to a local guy that wanted $325 to install an emanage and then $600hr to dyno tune. Kinda steep. So what A/f module should I go with? safc, vafc, neo, emanage, emanage ultimate. I know there are more but also get more expensive. So what do you think I can get away with as far as functionality and be happy with. I used to own a 350z convertable that I did kinetix intake, ypipe, cold air, custom exhaust, full brake upgrade, under drive pulley etc.. Anyway thanks for your input.
I tuned my UTEC on my Z myself. It wasn't difficult at all. With a little research you can find optimum AFR and tune to that. More research can tell you what timing changes can be done. You can be 90-95% tuned before getting on a dyno.
It is a little high for what Im doing , are you going FI. Im just doing basic bolt ons.Is it worth the $800 plus setup? Its plug and play for the most part and then just setting parameters correct? Are there many differences between the 350z and max ecu? Thanks for any info.
It isn't a 'little high' for what he was asking, in is absolute highway robbery in my opinion. It should cost about $150-200 to physically install the EMS system and then maybe about $100 to tune the car.
You have to take into account that not many people are tuning Maximas so the price shold be relatively cheap. In addition, you don't have a huge set of mods, noticebaly no forced induction so tuning should be quite quick and easy to do.
As for Z's, many shops that know their worth and are REALLY good typically charge $200-$250 and hour. The shop that I got to charges this much but if it goes over two hours, they charge $500 for unlimited amoutn of tuning during that session so if needed 4 hours of tuning, you only pay $500.
What that guy was asking for was insane.
In addition, don't go with anything to complex as far as the EMS is concerned. I use a Greddy E-Manage Ultimate on my Z when it was boosted and I will use it again after it gets reinstalled. The Greddy EU is an excellent peice of equipment and in some regards can be considered overkill for your application but will do nicely none-the-less.

Man everyones opinions differs. Some say utec, emanage ultimate. As you say it might be overboard for what Im going to do. Now I guess I decided on the neo or just he emanage, not ultimate. Ill be loing around for some other shops in the area to seee what I can come up with.

The UTEC is a fine piece of equipment designed more for the FI application. I believe that from the factory, it is set to activate and take control once positive air pressure is detected but this can be reprogrammed for NA application where no boost exists.
In some cases, you may be correct in the sense that even the EU is too much for what you need and maybe the Blue may suffice however I am not familiar with the blue. Basically, you just want an EMS that can adjust some timing and fuel input and I believe the Blue can do that just fine.
Call Greddy yourself and ask them as well as the multitude of shops that are sponsors here but I will say this much- UTEC is WAAAAAY too much for what you need.
