I've looked around a bit and didn't find any info on this. I bought the tuner used and it came with a phone cord to connect to the UTEC, but it doesn't seem to see the interface, so I am thinking I need to buy a DB9 cable. I know there are a couple of different kinds and just want to make sure I buy the right thing the first time.

 

That connect to your Laptop or a serial-usb that you can connect to your laptop. Utec should have a Serial cable and you connect that to the back of the tuner.. It should go like this Utec->Tuner->Laptop

 

I don't have the DB9 cable that came with the UTEC. I got it used and they didn't send most of the stuff.

 

I dont remember exactly but just look at the DB9 in Utec and the tuner and buy the right end (ie, male/female).

 

it's a normal db9 serial cable that you can buy anywhere.

like atheng sadi, the phone cord is to connect to your laptop. you will need an RJ-11 (or is it rj-12?) to Serial adapter to hook the cable to your laptop (assuming your laptop has a serial port. if your laptop doesn't have a serial port, then you will also need a usb-serial adapter (sometimes called a PDA adapter).

there's lots of adapters needed to connect a utec/tuner combo to a modern laptop. kind of sux, but it works flawlessly. the easiest place to get the rj11-serial adapter is from TurboXS. those are hard to find.
