Default Got My Z Tuned With Osiris. Another Happy UpRev Customer.

Since my other thread isn't about my e-tune, but just a question on if it's safe to rev a DE high, I figured I'd give this review a separate thread.

I got my final e-tune done a few days. I had a bit of a mixup and the first file I uploaded was just a base tune file. The guys at Osiris thought I wanted to do my own tuning since I had the tuner version of Osiris (I only had it because I bought this used from SOLO). Anyways, when they sent me a base map I uploaded it and I felt a performance kick for a day, until the ECU basically reset itself back to all of its crappy AFR settings and such. It's all good though, the guys at Osiris made everything happen for me and I highly recommend this as your solution to tune your car.

Now I've got the actual E-tune and sweet Moses is this amazing. The car snaps off the line much quicker than before. But the power is especially noticeable after 3000RPM. Even in 2nd gear @ 3000RPM, the car pulls really, really hard, which I've never felt before. First gear is just an absolute monster - it flies by so quick and the impact of your head back into the seat when you floor it is amazing. I laughed hysterically when I launched the car from 20MPH in 1st and then into 2nd - the power is amazing, I never thought I'd feel this from my Z. This is easily the best mod I've ever done to this car, worth every penny. Best of all, when I decide to sell my Z, I can just resell the Osiris cable and software for almost as much as I bought it for: win-win.

Hell, even flooring it at 40MPH in 4th gear gives me a whole lot more power to make a pass, where as before I'd have to use 3rd. Same goes for when you're going 60. Before, I'd have to pass in 3rd gear. But now 4th is just right in doing so. Also, bumping the RPMs by 300 (~7000RPM redline) really helps when you shift, because it makes power all the way up to my new redline and shifts into a very, very meaty powerband.

The only drawback now is traction...I need 265s in the back, which I'll get in a few months, once the winter passes.

My power mods are:
Borla True Dual
Magnaflow X-Pipe
Ultimate Racing HFCs
JWT Popcharger
MotorDyne 5/16 Spacer

And now it's all tuned. =)

Man i totally have to agree with you! I was there in Ausitn last night getting the last tune of 2009 @ uprev with rich and jared. Hands down best mod I have done for the Z! Jared mentioned that I was running extreamly lean @ 14.5 to 15 I think he said. But now the car is running immaculate. Pulls really hard in every single gear through out the whole powerband.

Can't see why an extra 300RPMs would cause any damage. Plenty of people are running more than 7000RPM on regular DEs with just bolt-ons and no issues.

First, I'd like to say that I don't want this turning into an e-tune vs. dyno-tune thread. What I say below is just my personal belief. So to answer your question:

No, I haven't. The way I see it is that tuning from a group of logs and tuning on a dyno aren't all that much different. When you're on a dyno, you're monitoring the same stuff that you monitor when you create logs using Cipher, but I believe Cipher monitors more parameters, so it's more in-depth. The most important thing is the AFR and the timing. Some would argue that a dyno-tune is better because you can adjust until you reach the highest HP, but I recall a few threads showing only 4-6WHP improvement with a dyno-tune over an E-tune done by Osiris.

Of course, like I mentioned the other advantage to Osiris over a dyno-tune is that you can sell your Osiris when you sell the car and get back 85-90% of what you paid for it. For example, SOLO-350Z sold me his Osiris Tuner Package for $600, he paid $700 for it new - he only lost $100. You can't do that with a dyno-tune, obviously.

Besides, Osiris now offers Live Tuning in the newest software update, which makes Osiris even better than it was before.

Yep, I had a lot of area where my AFR would run 13, 14 and low 15. At points I believe I even tipped into 16, even if it was briefly. The new map I have now is targeted for ~12.6, and it really makes a massive difference.

huh.. when I got my osiris flash and dyno tune from intec I was told automatics dont make power up high (I want to say he said over 6k, but he could have said 6.5k) so upping the redline is pointless.

I have similar mods to you (no hfc's). I'd like HFC's and a retune at some point but not too concerned about it.

knew I read that somewhere, just read your other thread that you also bumped.

https://my350z.com/forum/tuning/4635...at-vq35de.html

doesn't seem worth increasing the redline for anything outside of pretending like vtecs about to kick in. VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM GO S2K REDLINE GOOOO

For the OP: What was your order of mods? Or did you do everything at once? I'm curious to know what made the biggest difference between the spacer, cats, and tune.

Right now I'm just on a catback and intake (well 06 box + drop-in...same thing). I took a bit of a break and did some coilovers, brake package, etc, but now starting to get interested in power mods again. Those 3 things are what I have left to get.

n/a power mods are a waste of money on the DE, imo. not that I have gone crazy, but 5/16" plenum spacer, JWT pop charger, bassani dual exhaust and osiris / dyno tune got my weak *** car up to 240whp and it hardly pulls harder then stock. your results may be a bit better if it's MT but even then the bang for the buck is garbage

A before and after dyno chart is very informative.

It doesn't matter if it's automatic or not. What you may have been told is that past 120MPH, the gearing of a 5-speed will hold it back. A VQ35DE is a VQ35DE. There have been numerous people who put to use an extra 300RPM on the track and saw a drop in time and an increase in trap-speed. When you're shifting into another gear, you'll be shifting into a much better powerband.

Look at this dyno of a 2006 5AT with an unshielded Popcharger (heat soak galore).

It's making power just fine all the way up to nearly redline. I know I've seen other dynos of 5ATs where the drops aren't that bad at all. Besides, it's an extra 300RPM that passes in mere milliseconds, and helps get you into a better range of power with the next shift.

In this order:
1) MD Spacer
2) Borla True Dual
3) JWT Popcharger w/heatshield
4) HFCs
5) Magnaflow X-Pipe
6) OEM Airbox Re-Installed
7) JWT Popcharger w/modified heatshield Re-Installed
8) Tuned

Before the tune, the HFCs were definitely the best mod. It felt like they opened up an annoying bottleneck that prevented the improved flow from the spacer and helped the Borla, as well.

have you dynoed your car after the tune Arnold? I was disappointed with the #, but the car felt great after the osiris flash/dyno tune. I think my car made just under 240whp =/

I am hoping if I get HFC's and a new tune I can get somewhere closer to 250.

I haven't dynoed. To be honest, I'm not driving the car too much, since I'm still on summer tires and there is an extremely annoying rattling noise coming from the passenger side rear every time I hit a bump (sounds like somewhere in the suspension).

All I can say is something that may possibly get me flamed or not (it wasn't anything excessive)...I had a little fun with a 335i Coupe yesterday night on a dead highway coming back from my GF's. Nothing crazy, just took it to 80 from a 20MPH roll and backed off. I was walking away from him quite nicely, which makes me that much eager to take my car to a strip and see what I'd trap though the 1/4.

Oddly enough, I just got dressed and am going to go test drive a 335i Coupe now. Hahaha.

But to address your dyno concerns, Entaille, don't read too much into it. One dyno will tell you you're making 240, another 260, and another 280. I've seen cars dyno crap numbers and then run fantastic times and speeds on the track. Dynos are worthless if you want to measure power, they're just good to see how much power you've gained with a mod. That's it. Your trap speed through a 1/4 mile is the best representation of your power.

Where in Austin did you get your car tuned? I just got a 350z and want to do some tuning to it.

Thanks,

Chad
